The needed class gets more exp, more gil, and at 60+, a materia cluster to aid with optimizing costs, which can be stockpiled for new items.

What more incentive can you give them when the main areas are already covered? Any sort of cosmetic item basically falls under 'gil'.

Well I got my healers to 70, leveled a few DPS classes, and now I'm leveling tanks. Problem is there's three tanks, three healers, and nine DPS as far as jobs go. So even though I'm leveling tanks for now I'll eventually have nothing left but DPS if I want to keep seeing those numbers go up. Even though I'm "doing my part" so to speak, eventually I will be yet another DPS clogging up the queues. And I won't be joining queues that give EXP as level 70 jobs when I have other jobs that can use the EXP bonuses.

I can't think of a game where there were equal numbers of people playing tanks, healers, and DPS roles. If you go with the trinity you do so knowing that most of your players are going to be damage dealers. SE could open up the frequently clogged dungeon roulettes (50/60 in particular) with better incentives or even going so far as to change the party comp to 1 tank, 1 healer, 3 DPS, but that would require a great deal of care and resource investment to basically re-calibrate the strength of enemies and mechanics timings. I hope next expac we get some more healer and/or tank jobs... even if new jobs don't change the overall amount of people playing as a particular role, they give serial levelers like me more time to be an in-demand job rather than yet another soul stuck in limbo waiting for queue to pop.

The ability to unlock alternative animations.

"Complete leveling roulette 200 times as a Dark Knight."

Dark Knights - Glamour "Scourge" over "Souleater".

    Problem solved.

The first is about the best thing to do. I do lots of things on tank but all are driven by looking at FC or Linkshell list and seeing DPS queued and me asking if they want to invite me or a DPS asking if a tank/healer is free to queue.

I can't think of anything that would make me give up XP bonus on a class I'm leveling. You get clusters faster doing hunts if you need those, and can cap tomes at the same time. For the last couple weeks I've been leveling SAM and it's actually nice having a wait time as I've almost finished leveling up miner via collectables while waiting for dps queues lol. But, there's no reason to give up the XP bonus I need to level SAM. Gonna need a bigger carrot.

    This. I can't like this post enough. Why can I only like it once? ;-;
(In fact, I think I'm taking that as my new sig quote)

And while not as important as the quote above, there's a couple other ways to convince tank and healer players to continue tanking and healing. Some of which have already been listed in this thread.

1: Make friends with tank and healer players. They're more likely to tank and heal if they're with someone they like. Possibly even trust. I should know. I feel better about being a Tank when I'm with my FC friend acting as the healer.

2: New jobs for tanks and healers. A.K.A, developers acknowledging the existance of the tank and healer players (NOT trying to pull in new players mind you. That's a bonus if that happens) and give them something new to experiment with. I was very disappointed with the developers when they tried so hard to insure us why DPS jobs are the only thing they're giving us for Stormblood. (Not forgetting to mention how that caters to the people who think for some reason that DPS jobs are the only jobs that matter and that we never need new tanks and healers ever again... who have been saying that since before DRK and AST even existed!) The only part of their explanation I'm willing to accept is that working on getting 3 jobs ready for an expansion pack over 2 is more taxing. Can't deny that. That's one more job they're tweaking to be ready for release before the expansion hits.
(Still praying for a Dancer healer BTW)

3: More rewards for Tanks and Healers. This'll cause the DPS population to cry up a storm, but lets face it... some people are only in it for the rewards and stuff they get for doing certain things. More rewards for taking up the duties that are "unpopular" could potentially convince more people to tank and heal for certain runs. To be fair, Tanks got more love in this department already for Stormblood in the form of armored mounts of the already existing Tank mounts. (Aiming for that armored Warlion mount BTW. My PLD has been getting out there a lot)

I considered listing more, but I'm sure that others will list additional reasons.

Man Square Enix are not gods, that would take a programmer like five whole minutes to do. Lower your expectation man.

Just wanted to mention, the moment SB's new jobs were announced I had several DPS-playing friends make me promise to queue with them (And since they're better than typical DF DPS, it works out nice for me too). Making friends really does pay dividends.

I be interested to hear your thoughts for a solution that meets that requirement. The thought crossed my mind, but it's a challenging problem as I'm sure you are aware. There are already "Adventurer in Need" incentives and role specific achievement incentives, but these incentives havent solved the problem.

Tomes arent really an option as creation are capped and the rest are pretty worthless. Personally, I dont see myself running more roulettes than i currently do, regardless of the incentives; however, i could be persuaded to queue as a max-level tank instead of a low-level dps alt. Unfortunately, I cant think of anything that could persuade me to do that besides being able to transfer XP to that dps alt in some way.

It seems like itemization and the SB reworked role abilities devastated the leveling process. If you were really desperate before you could tank as a dps but now you basically need a tank. It fucking sucks.

They should just rework role/extra actions again and in the mean time beef up outlets for exp. Quests and the open world give you virtually nothing compared to dungeons.

Also, open a couple grey slots for light party in DF.
