Is he ACTUALLY soley responisble for making the game? O_O I thought there were alot more people involved, but I guess it's just Yoshi coding away in the basement of SE HQ... for a one man job this game is really great XP
I mean, I know you're being sarcastic, but without Yoshi-P this game would literally not even exist anymore; so I'll allow the undying gratitude because I, too, enjoy the shit out of this game.
Also, thanks to everyone else involved.
As the producer and director, he is solely responsible for the game vision and direction, so in a way Virgil is right. Yoshi P might not make the art assets, design the battle mechanics or write the story, but he does have authority and input on every aspect of development and has to approve all of it
Hmm, I do wonder how much he thinks up himself, or if he's mostly just accepting or declining other people proposals? Not that it matter much.
I don't know of any other games where the developers are so focused on meeting the players' needs - if not exceeding them. Yes, sometimes things don't live up to our expectations as this recent housing fiasco has demonstrated, but I think any other developer would have preferred to stick their heads in the sand rather than come up with a solution.
Then again, since we don't know what the solution will be yet, let's just say I'm...cautiously optimistic...
Development doesn't work like that, it's more of a combination of the two. Yoshi P knows the budget and the desires of SE publishing, and will take that to the development team in a meeting. In meetings, content is discussed and frameworks established, at which point tasks trickle down the heirachy and into the pipeline. These tasks are tracked and monitored by Yoshi P in order to make sure they meet his vision for the patch, and that it fits well with the content schedule. At least, that is how I imagine things based on a background knowledge of (admittedly western) game development practices.
I would recommend checking out fan fest panels on game development if you are interested. The battle design panel is a particularly interesting one.
To further clarify what Sayoh means, 1.0 was SO bad that it was just gonna stay as some convoluted free-to-play mess that ruined the FF franchise. Then, YoshiP was brought in. His plan was to kill off 1.0 and start all over with ARR. Most thought it wasn't gonna work. As you can tell, the team that stuck with him did it.
Check out the NoClips documentary on Youtube. I recommend watching all 3 parts.

And? OP may, and there's nothing wrong with saying "God bless you" to someone. It's just another way of giving thanks.
I don't believe in any god, but if someone says "God bless you" to me, I politely acknowledge and accept.
On topic, hopefully Yoshi-P and the dev team really think long and hard about how they are addressing the housing issue after 4.1 and Shirogane. And hopefully 4.2 brings something better than the mess that was Tuesday. I am glad that he took the complaints into consideration, and plans to address them.
