    unavailable camps

im in gridania right now starting out, and whenever i look at the map i see a whole lot of different camps other than bentbranch and emerald moss. do these open up at higher level? what about coerthas?

it seems like the game is really...small. is it just me? or are the devs expanding?

You can get to them now.

With patience and skill you can get to any camp in the game, just put on your favourite pair of walking shoes and start walking . Most of the camps are easy to get to, but some are camped by high level aggroing mobs and the most difficult cause large parties difficulty.

Also you are going to want to get to the other cities. Follow the road south, past Tranquil and through scene change and get to Thanalan. Follow the road again (picking up the camps and the city of Ul'dah) to the ferry dock on the coast. Take the ferry to Limsa Lominsa and pick up the city there. You could take the airship to these places but you will get a better feeling of the landscape by walking.

As for Coerthas, it is available and there is lots to do there, but the city is not yet open. Similarly the final zone (Mor Dhona) is open and there is lots to kill, but no city, and it is dangerous.

The game isn't small, you just haven't discovered most of it yet, there are no boundaries to your exploration, just monsters to avoid.

thanks for the great response. one thing i forgot to add - do you accept leves in said camps, or do side quests open up there?
can't wait to see coerthas by the way - reminds me of something out of LOTR lol

    Hi and welcome. ^^

Leves that you accept at the Adventurer's Guild are activated at the camps, and higher level leves take place at some of the more far flung Aetheryte locations... but you need still need to pick up your leves at the Adventurer's Guild first.

There are also Grand Company missions that can be accepted at certain Aetheryte locations without going to the Adventurer's Guild, but I think you have to enlist in a Grand Company to undertake those?

And yes, side quests often require you to travel to various locations around the map... but everything is pretty accessible from the very beginning.

Coerthas is beautiful. It's not as dangerous or creepy as Mor Dhona, but you still need to watch out for aggressive monsters.

Have fun exploring. Eorzea is huge and if you resist the urge to take shortcuts, there is quite a bit of fun to be had by experiencing the world for yourself. ^^

If I understand your question correctly, leves are issued in the cities, talk to the guys in the Adventurers Guilds. You can pick up leves in any city and do them, there is no restriction, that's why I was highlighting the zones with cities. Leves come in two types, local leves which are for crafting and regional leves which are for combat and gathering. Some local and all regional leves require you to go out to the relevant camp, once there regional leves can be started by interacting with the atherite.

There are missions that can be obtained in camps, but these are all to do with the Grand Companies and your level is too low to be initiated into these (25 is your magic number IIRC).

I like Coerthas as well. I especially like the music that plays while you are in there. The most spectacular zone is Mor Dhona, it is not easy getting there but it is definitely worth the effort, you are going to want to be there when 'dark' weather is on. If you want to get there I think the easiest route is south from Dragonhead in Coerthas, the westwards road in Black Shroud is not nice and the north path from Bluefog is down right nasty (and this assumes you can get to Bluefog in the first place ).

If you want to get all the gates and stuff there is this guide (not my work). If I was you I would think long and hard before clicking on this link, I find doing your own exploration (at least at the start) is much more rewarding.
