It's really just a human problem. The internet just gives a broad look into it. I have seen that strip XPAbout one quarter of the problem is abusive posters who can't have ever have had meaningful offline conversations with a real human being, a quarter is professional victims with a persecution complex who take unrelated things as personal attacks, another quarter white knights looking for a cause to champion no matter how pointless, and the last quarter is people who are just looking to be offended for the sake of being able to complain and draw attention to themselves because they otherwise have a mundane and boring existence.
That's not an FFXIV problem. Not even a forum problem. Penny Arcade has a comic strip about what happens with internet + anonymity. It's an internet problem.
