Here it is just a remnant of a system being gutted over the course of it's life.
I like your thinking and I want this for next expansion /5.0. That's much better, reducing the amount of bars to track. Almost none of the jobs do anything interesting with mp/tp and are just balanced so you don't run dry, with refresh skills added on to help with that but it's not an interesting mechanic just hitting the button when it's needed. Also rip ether pots.
