How much DPS should I be doing?

Hey, I was wondering how much dps should I be doing as a level 44 DRG synced down to level 40? I was in a group and I was told that my dps was atrocious. I do not run ACT since I heard you could get banned for it, but the numbers he quoted to me on the final boss were as follows; Him: Damage done 51,00. DPS 109. Me: Damage Done 40,00. DPS 86.

    Overall was;

Him: Damage Done 132,541 DPS 113. Me 102,000 DPS 87.

Think he was a level 50 RDM in blue level 50 gear, think it was iron works or something like that, and my ilvl 36. I do not want to hold my group back so how much dps should I be doing at this level range? Thanks!

Mainly what started this was because he did not like our clear speed on trash. Since I will admit at first I was just using my single target rotation and focusing one target at a time, he told me to use my AoE it does more dmg so I did, yet he still complained about clear speed. I was doing my best AoE wise but all I have in Doom spike. Just looking to improve do not want to be a burden.

Any tips would be nice, sorry for the ramble.

I really wouldn't worry about it much... simply put he outgears you... some people worry too much about clear speed and parser numbers... just keep building your gear up, leveling, and perfecting your rotations...

Take a moment to read your abilities. Leveling on any class has a fairly consistent learning curve as you're introduced to your abilities.

A dragoon's basic skillset will require some positionals and this expands as you unlock more abilities.

The general rule is never let your GCD rest. You should always be using a weaponskill when it's safe to be within range.

    Priority is:
    Maintain Buffs
Refresh DoTs (when you get Chaos Thrust)
Keep OGCD attack abilities on cooldown

Outside this, make sure to at least update your weapon if you've gone several levels and have had no dungeon / quest rewards. Your weapon is your most important item for your damage, followed by your Armor, and then your Accessories.

Also, mages bragging about AOE damage over melee is like a healer bragging about Regen spells over a monk.

Someone actually pulled numbers for a lvl40 dungeon? Yeeeeeah, I'd say ignore him.

You shouldn't bother with how much damage you do until you've got all of your skills and you intend to clear more difficult content.
Because as you noticed even synced gear still make an huge difference in low level between someone capped in all stats and someone with a regular gear.
Also you don't have your full skillset and should still be getting used to your skills.

Since you listened and went with AOE and are here asking advice I'd say you have the right attitude to improve.
For now don't worry too much about your dps and idiots that freak out over dps in a dungeon lvl40(geez) just get used to your skills, read your tool tip, try to figure what might be good ideas and once you reach lvl70 look around for guides if you want other people take on your job and try things out on the training dummies until you're satsified with your dps.

This was a cute read. Like awww. Level first. Get comfortable with your hotbar setup. Learn your skills.

    Classes aren't balanced until 70.

I wouldn't worry about numbers at this point. It is more important to become consistent in your rotation. You say you are lvl 44 with an ilvl of 36. You might want to look into your gear and see what could use upgrading. At this point BiS isn't important just getting as high an ilvl as you can for your class. By doing this you should be able to bring your DPS up some.

The level sync makes parsing outside from max lvl content useless. Classes that aren't lv70 aren't balanced, you can't compare them.
If you still feel you're doing low dps, I can only suggest you follow the advice the others in this thread posted. Additionally seek out experienced players of your class and ask them for advice.

Besides all this, the numbers aren't even enough to push some crap even in low level dungeon.

Looks to me you are doing fine regardless.. not too many can compete with RDM at low level range in terms of dps (due to the nature of dualcast), that is, if those numbers are even relevant for a synced low level dungeon.
And given that, your dps aren't even that much of a different.

Like some had mentioned, jobs aren't balanced around that level range, at least not RDM - they start at 50 for a reason, while the old fashion jobs at least have a progression of 1-49.

Sounds to me that you were just grouped with a whiner.. If I have to nitpick from this, even he wasn't doing the best "dps" he could do at that level, I ran enough sync'd runs on my RDM to know what numbers are like. That 20 or so dps isn't really going to make the clear speed that much faster, if any.

Wait till you are 70, geared and do more dps than most RDMs haha.

So a guy really pressured you on DPS in a 40 dungeon ? Where as you say it's around 100 DPS ? Man, what a time to be alive...

    Seriously don't listen.

Only worry about your rotation when you're 50 : get a simple guide and listen to Kabooa's advice. From there on, you only add skills in the rotations.
Finally, when you're 70, you can really look into guides that are on this forum. If you want you can read them right away, but don't let yourself be given crap on DPS in anything that isn't 70
