Bioware did that with SWTOR, but since the expansion Knights of the Fallen Empire, there haven't been any further voice casting for the player characters and got reduced to dialouge options only.
And since SE had to swap out most of the voice cast from the knowable side/support cast during the ARR -> HW transition, I do not see them sticking to a group to keep that level of immersion going.

In what language and in which voice?
The character voices, that we choose in the character creator, is always the same regardless of the language setting. There are no different voice actors for every language, maybe even done by SE people. So it can only work if the WoL speak japanese only in every language setting.

Here's my 2 cents on this topic. I have played a game that does this (GW2) and I did like it, at first. That is, until I made a different character with a different "personality" I had envisioned, and the voice was exactly the same. It really ruined my immersion, and I could see the same thing happening in ffxiv with fantasia and alts, etc. I don't think it's a good idea.

They sort of had this in 1.0. It wasn’t actual talking but grunting when it seemed necessary. But that was probably because you only had 3 voice options. But we have 12 now.

No talking voice for the protagonist during 1.0, not even talking text. The companion talked for the protagonist and the player had the choice between different companions with different personality (as an example a male Lalafell who fear his own shadow and a female Miqo'te who love everyone). But even the companions had no voice.

IMO that would help the immersion. GW2 gives a voice to your char even outside c/s and it feels real immersive

I'd often like at least dialog, even if it weren't voiced. But then that would lead to another problem. Interactions frequently involve our characters explaining everything that just happened to an NPC who wasn't there to see it. Right now, this is accomplished with just a brief emote followed by the NPC's reaction to our story. Do we really want to either listen to or read through a lengthy description of what we just did every time our character needs to explain it?

The thing that would make this really tough is the voice talent for players were all more than likely Japanese. On that alone they would need to redo ALL the voice work to allow us to talk.

I came to say this. And Dragon Age suffered from this as well.
