As someone who worked her butt off to earn money for a large house to share with my friends only to be kicked the moment the servers went live, this is ridiculous. As I have seen in comments above, anyone can do pretty much anything in this game except housing because it is so limited. This needs to change.

When even RuneScape, one of the most ancient and esoteric MMOs on the market managed to not only make instanced housing work nigh perfectly but still manage to have guests in it, there's a problem.
Hell! I have a perfect solution! Residential Airships. Available to any player who beat certain parts of the MSQ, are unlimited in stock and can invite players when you land them somewhere (they'd be activated as a mount first, and would leave the area after you return to the wheel and dismount), they'd be perfect for the needs of FFXIV.
Signed. Every other current MMO that -has- housing has enough for everyone. Right now it's a miserable experience. You either choose to suffer at the hands of scalpers, chance your luck or give up the community you've been a part of for years to go to a less populated server. It's a horrible place to be stuck in and is completely unfair to -everyone-.
I'm on board, I waited a whole year for the housing to come up, and Cactuar got COMPLETLY SOLD OUT 20 minutes after the servers came up. What gives, SE?!
Why do you keep playing this artificial scarcity game limiting housing for FCs? And why do you keep riding the dreaded ward deal? Its more than obvious that you're never gonna meet the demand for housing because your servers get "overloaded" for keeping wards up all the time, when housing could be independent and instanced separate from each other so we all could have a darned house.
I am in agreement. There are not enough houses to go around, and buying one should not be a form of PvP!
I believe the housing we have the now is a wonderful idea, means we can interact as neighbors, however it doesn't work.
When you have over 10 million players worldwide (and yes i know that's not all one server) and very limited housing, there is going to be a problem.
Worst part is Housing was originally for FC's yet yesterday i seen most of the housing on my server bought by single players. Here's an example Ward 2, 60 plots (including the subward) only 10 plots were able to be bought by Free Companies, and maybe only 2-3 were large/medium houses, because single players had already got to the large and mediums.
We either need:
- a lot more wards that would accompany the whole of the server.
- housing instances, i.e Free Companies get like a ward sized area to build what they want, it would have 1 large plot for the guild hall, mediums and smalls for building anything else like shops, cafes, personal housing, etc. Players outside the FC's would still be able to visit, using the same rules as apartments/housing, FC leaders can choice to open their ward to other players or keep it private and only for FC members, but this means no more neighbours other than FC members.
- have plots were we can decide on the size of housing (restricting single players to perhaps smalls and mediums)
- remove personal housing all together
these are the only options i can really see that would fix this issue.

My FC actially transfered to omega for n FC house. Sure thing wie got one at tge time, but only a small one. We worked our asses off besides raiding to get enough money for a large house in shirogane. I was tge first one to log in from all of us, and i had the Problem that my login button didnt work, the others had launcher crashs. I was online 3 minutes after tge Servers got back up, just to See that all large and medium plots were all gone. Tgey really should change tge system. I dont habe anything against private housing, but they should make the plots when they open them up maybe fc only at Start, maybe with a FC size check for tge size of the house but as it is now its totally unsatisfying, especially when you think about all the poor souls that couldnt ethen geht a shot at the houses thx to work.
+1
