Hi all, so as the title says i am completely new,
in fact this is my first real experience with an MMO and was wondering if there are any people out there willing to help me learn to play?

ps. sorry if i am using the forum wrong, kinda new to these too.

Yes you came to the right place, there are many veterans on the forums that can give you advice about anything. I'm on a different world so I won't be able to play with you but if you use the shout channel to ask for an invite to the Novice Network I'm sure one of the mentors will invite you. The Novice Network is an in game chat channel for players to help each other in. Your chat window is in the lower left corner of your screen by default and your typing field is directly below it. On the left of the typing field is an icon, if you click on that it will let you select different channels to speak in.

Did you have any specific questions about playing that you needed help with?

In addition to the Novice Network, you can join a free company (aka Guild, or Clan). This is one of the easiest ways to have people help you.
Many FCs I know of provide free gear, dungeon and raid clearing assistance for new members.

You can play with people on other servers within the same data center in a limited fashion via the cross world Party finder. You are on Louisox and I am on Gilgamesh but we are both in the Aether data center, therefore, we could technically do a dungeon or raid or trial together. I would not be able to give you gear, or help you quest or do a fate.

My best suggestion is to actually play the game! And learn as you go through. If you have any specific questions, this forum will definitely be helpful.

Ill agree with the others here. Firstly, welcome to the game! Hopefully you have a great time. Secondly, this game is fairly new player friendly - whether you have previous MMO experience or not. So in general you can just go at things in game and figure most of them out. And finally, please come back and ask if you have any specific questions. The official description of this forum reads

The purpose of this forum is to provide a place for players who are new to FINAL FANTASY XIV to find a quick resolution to the questions and issues they may have by holding discussions with other players, including experienced ones.

and in practice that means new player has question, they ask, and more experienced players answer(whether its someone with a week more experience or years more). So you are certainly doing that right.

Welcome to eorzea! My advice is to take your time, explore, read everything you can in game and have fun! There is nothing like experiencing the beauty of this world for the first time so take some time to appreciate how things like the bottom of your clothes getting wet when running through a stream or your hair blowing in the wind... there's no rush... if you have questions the forums are the place (also far more dramatic than people tend to behave in game)

I don't mind helping out considering I have a character on Louisoix that I need to progress, and in the event you may be looking for friends. Just give a beep on here I guess with when you're on if you wish.

If I must give a few tips though just enjoy the game and don't accept any random FC invitations, get to know people before joining one Random ones always leave a bad taste afterwards. It's the only thing I'd change if I could go back in time
