Are there plans for challenge dungeons or dungeon progression?

I always thought that 'mythic dungeons' and the progression system from a certain other MMO was always a brilliant idea and a really good incentive to keep people gearing and trying to reach higher levels (which in turn gets them better stuff, possibly.)

With FFXIV lacking reasons to gear up properly once you've done the content, this would be a good idea no? Anyone know if such things have been discussed or are in the works?

Palace of the Dead 100+ is intended to be the "Challenge dungeon."

Oh, that's a bit disappointing then. It's not really the same as having all Stormblood dungeons being able to 'level up' and have unique effects worked in there that change the dynamic of the run and how you approach it

That's what the savage content is for. Personally I'd prefer the dev team spends time on making raids vs going back through all the light party content to add convoluted system for getting gear. If you're wanting something besides tome gear and can't get the omega gear, the 24 man raid will be dropping in the next patch.

I can get that gear, try not to sound so elitist and assume such things. But come on man, surely you can understand how this would keep things interesting a little better than just doing the one raid with the one difficulty (unless you really want to count normal mode in, which is gear you shouldn't need anymore) once a week and then have nothing to do. Having challenge levels to progress through with fun effects would make doing those dungeons way more fun and give friends more things to do together in this MMO, as well as give more incentive to gear up.

I only assumed you couldn't get that gear because you're in the 12th percentile on fflogs. Not that my logs are much better, sitting at around 30-40th percentile while running pug. Personally I don't find the dungeons interesting either, but I'd rather not take dev time away from savage, ex primals and other end-game content to rework old content.

I don't bother with fflogs. Current item level for my tank is 335 so I got quite a few of 340 stuff already

But back on topic. Mythic dungeons and that entire challenge/progression system was a massive success in WoW, it would imo be a better thing to implement than Ultimate Bahamut which will only reach a very small percentage of players instead of appealing to every skill level with increasing rewards based on how far you can get it. Ultimate Bahamut is more a waste of dev time considering how few people will actually get to beat that at all. The strict requirements alone so far tell me that much. Item level 340 being strongly recommended. How many people can you honestly say are that max geared, let alone getting a full group of those? Having O4S beaten is a little better as a requirement, but again that one also is like 20% of the playerbase or so currently if i'm not mistaken

WoWs M+ dungeons just drove a bigger wedge between players that ran them and those that didn't. At the time I was a well geared healer so had an easy-ish time pugging the higher levels but if you're a DPS class that is new or behind the gear curve (which, as I'm sure you know is very easy to become very quickly in WoW), you were/are screwed.

For those who don't know – there is no DF for M+, you have to make the groups yourselves and if you don't have the gear score – good luck with that *especially* as a dps. If you are a non raider you are not going anywhere fast. Also class stacking in the Mythic+ 5 mans was a thing again - who has the best aoe etc.

Now I enjoyed them - to a point - the healing did become very stressful later on but I don't think the climate is right in FFIV for that sort of exclusivity or, at the very least, it would change the nature of the game irrevocably. Which to some will be good, some not.

Edit: Almost forgot to add the drama of the keystones breaking at the start of Legion - dear god the DRAMA.
