TANK stacking

Hello everyone!

I've a newbie question for all the veterans out there about stacking two tanks of the same type in a 8 man party.

So I joined a PF o1s yesterday on my PLD, the party already had another PLD and the healer proceeded to ask "Will we be alright with two PLD?". I asked myself the same question but for the sake of harmony I switch to my DRK.

Is there any reason why having two PLD will have a problem? does the dots not stack or something?

There's a penalty to LB gauge buildup if you have more than two of the same job in a party, and gets worse the more job duplicates you have. That's the main concern.

Most content is doable regardless of LB though, and is really only a problem during progression in savage when the content is super new and a level 3 LB is the difference between clear or no clear.

It slows the speed which lb builds, but that's about it.

besides the LB, some jobs work against each other, when you bring 2 of them. in regards of tanks having 2 Dark Knights in the party basically removes the utility a DRK offtank offers, since using The Blackest Night on the DRK maintank is counter productive. i don't know if you can overwrite his shield, but when the MT uses it on himself he gets a 20% shield, if the OT uses it on the MT it's only a 10% shield.

The LB penalty is pretty minuscule to be honest.

If you TBN a DRK who already casted it on themselves yours just doesn't take effect (like if you Esuna someone who has no ailments "XXX has no effect").

Not sure what happens in the opposite, I assume you do overwrite theirs because I don't recall ever seeing a 'TBN has no effect' using it on myself while tanking, DRK/DRK'd plenty PUGs so imagine I would have seen it if that were the case, but I'm not sure

Its just like Adloquium/succor. The best always stays.

For example if you get a crit adlo it will ovewrite the old one, if you try again and not crit it will not ovewrite.

Yeah I assume the DRK MT will always override the OT due to the 20% difference from self use.

if there's two DRK Tanks and you are OTing, you should keep throwing TBN on MT at anything that is strong enough for it to pop minus things like tankbusters because then you'd be wasting MP to bring your DPS up. With BW is pretty difficult to run out of MP.

Though you should conserve TBN for yourself things mechanics like Twinbolt or when you know you'll be taking enough damage so healers have less to do.
