RDM: Does it get fun at 70?

I think it would be more fun if some of the spells, especially verflare/holy, had a more visual and audible impact.

I think that's the issue, too, aside from being very simple to play. All Black Mage does most of the time is stand still and cast Fire IV which sounds simple but the spell is appealing and impactful so it feels satisfying to use.
Meanwhile not even Verflare or Verholy (at least in audible impact) are appealing.
