Seperate Registration Codes for Multiple Platforms

I realize that this may have been brought up before at some point or another--and if it has I apologize, I didn't see anything mentioned--but I think needing to buy the game and its expansions twice to play on both PC and PS4 is a little redundant.

Before anyone jumps down my throat about this, SE has allowed a "one-code/all platforms" policy in the past with Final Fantasy XI. Of course, you would need to have the base game installation disk for both platforms, but once an expansion had been purchased and registered to a service account, it was valid on all platforms (PS2/Xbox360/PC).

I mainly play on PC, and I own both expansions. Through certain circumstances, I also have a copy of the PS3 version of the game (upgraded for free to PS4) that I use whenever I feel like playing on a TV and relaxing on a couch instead of playing at a desk. My gripe is that I can't access anything beyond A Realm Reborn while on my PS4. I can't zone into newer areas, access 51+ dungeons, or level beyond Lv.50 even though I have jobs at Lv.70.

Is there a reason behind this particular lockout policy, or do I really need to pay for the expansions twice to gain access to what I should already have?

Well think about it this way, if you wanted to play the same game in two consoles they are different formats. Example: You own Zelda call of the Wild on Nintendo wii U, but now want it to be mobile on Nintendo switch. Good luck fitting a Disc into a card slot -.-. SE was kind enough to actually provide free conversions from PS3 to PS4 and made it clear about expansions. So if you want to play it on several ones you will need to buy the versions. It was a big change from FFXI were you could use same account on various systems. You technically don't have too, for ARR but for expansion seems like you do for content being it's not being auto updated for console do t registration.

I get what you're saying, but it's different in that this game was meant to be played cross-platform, whereas if I made the mistake of purchasing the Wii U version of a game like Breath of the Wild and later decide I wanted it on the Switch, that would seem like a terrible lapse in judgment on my part. I don't mean to sound like an entitled prick, hence why I've used Final Fantasy XI as a case in point where that one-code/all platform policy was the norm. I understand that FFXI =/= FFXIV, but you would think that owning an expansion to the game would be universally accepted across all platforms registered to a single service account, especially when you consider that we're talking about the same company here in both instances--or I can accept that maybe I'm just used to FFXI being set as the standard by which this game should really be held against.

Yeah I was able to use my FFXI cross account after registering it just got charged double the the subscription fee. Once for logging in to alternate console. I had to make a choice and I play both on PC and PS4 my self, until Heavens Ward was released I had no problem being ARR can be downloaded no problem. Afterwards I needed both codes regardless so I feel you. Then again it is a business model :/. However the good news is I only pay once for the character subscription and update auto fill if anything needs to be re registers with out problems. Though I think I will stay PC now just because Sony has had way too many issues.

I originally played FFXI on the PS2 and later migrated over to PC. I've never had any problems with the billing cycle for setting up the same PlayOnline account on separate platforms. I've even gone to a friend's house and used their Xbox360 and used my POL Login details and it worked just fine. So you must've just had some bad luck or something.

All in all, this really isn't a huge deal. If I wanted to run an Expert Roulette I can just hop on my PC and get it done, then hop back on the PS4 and do some low-level grinding or whathaveyou. It's just a little foreign to me that, while still being SE, I have to buy an expansion twice if I wanted access across more than one platform. Call it either corporate greed, or just an inconvenience.

In any case, I'd love to get a Community Rep response on this, even if the answer is essentially, "just give us your money and quit crying." Of course, if it isn't too much to ask for an explanation on why the service accounts between Final Fantasy XI and XIV have such contrasting policies on this issue.
