Look guys! We got mentioned in the patch notes, finally some recognition!
Let's read it aloud together:

Love their choice of wording, not "incorrect", not "higher than intended", they went with "excessive", you can't say SE doesn't have a sense of humour.
Clearly we DRK's need to find GM's ingame and cast Salted Earth on them repeatedly until they log off.
*Realizes that this statement could have been made 2 years ago and would have made sense in hindsight* lol...
In all seriousness, I have no idea what makes the dev team tick with regards to this job. Patch after patch goes by and I've seen so many BIG, BIG buffs to tons of jobs. DRK mains aren't even good at asking for buffs, maybe its just me, but every DRK seems to be afraid that what they're asking for will be OP or broken. Have you all SEEN some of the buffs SE has just passed out just because people merely asked for them?
BRD buffs, PLD buffs, recently WAR buffs, AST buffs, DRG buffs, giving jobs essentially brand new f***ing abilities mid-expansion, being made to hand back over abilities or effects after only having just removed them 1 patch ago, changing a job's base stats, DOUBLING percentage buffs, completely removing resource costs around which a job was balanced, massive recast time or duration buffs, brand spanking new proc mechanics mid-expansion - you can't make this up, its BANANAS, and it happens almost every major patch. Several jobs get massive buffs or all-out additions, or simply have a list of small buffs so long I actually have to scroll up and down on the patch notes to read them all.
Why do we think we aren't good enough or don't deserve this? Aside from 10 potency added to a GCD here or there and discounting the expansion which was a zero-sum adjustment, the biggest thing we have ever gotten from SE was the 20% TP cost reduction on Blood Weapon, which wasn't even a buff, it was a FIX. It can't be because DRK is too powerful to give such buffs... its not - but ever since we've been introduced into the game SE has insisted on driving us around in a wheelchair through raid tiers absolutely overflowing with tankbusters that can only be described as "DARK MIND BAIT" - a cooldown which is aging like a mummy with progeria, by the way - and because we've been propped up like this, like your drunk friend you're trying to walk to the car parked a mile way, at first glance we always appear to be fine or working as intended, because we were getting force-fed content designed around our gimmicks. Well, now the other tanks have those gimmicks! One of our old gimmicks, magic mitigation, PLD can now do at random ANY time, and can do it at WILL far more often. One of our new gimmicks, TBN, was now just given to WAR, only their version of it is an AoE, and FREE. PLD also now has MP management and nuke-style mana dumps! WAR got a gap closer, a better one! And with NO ANIMATION LOCK. ON THE FIRST TRY. WAR got in a single patch what DRGs have been trying to get since bloody 1.0! Another of our old gimmicks came in the form of two abilities the names of which I'm sure you can guess, that had fantastic synergy - that synergy is now just gone completely, and they took what was left and gave it to CROSS ROLE. I mean come on! Where is the 4.0 WAR or WHM-rage? Where is the 3.0 BRD or PLD-rage? *deep breath* - *sigh* ...
Sometimes I wonder if our own relative silence or half-measured suggestions are the only things standing in our way.

@Syzzle, in other words you think we should suggest what we want and let the team figure out how to balance it?
I'd rather ask for a cake and get a slice of said cake, than ask for crumbs and get nothing.
Just looking at our kit and looking at how powerful WAR and PLD are, I see GENEROUS head room to buff/adjust many things about the job whilst not throwing anything out of balance. We are farther behind than people realize. Just because Omega V1 was so easy none of the problems became... well.. problems... doesn't mean that they aren't problems or that they won't become even bigger problems. "Hey the worst tank in the game right now can tank one of the easiest raid tiers in the game no problem, its FINE, just give it 10 more potency on Souleater and make TBN last 1 second longer and we're golden." *twitch
Its like Omega was so easy that half of us don't even realize there's a problem.
Consider that we have the worst DPS, worst mitigation, and worst utility... this fact alone means that they have plenty of room to give us pretty generous buffs. I'm not 100% sure, but I don't think any job in the game has gone as un-touched as DRK has.
I swear, sometimes I think they would rather implement a raid boss with a 120K magic TB every 60s on the nose that hits multiple times for 9 seconds and 1-shots anyone equipped with a shield or axe than give DRK any buff or buffs that it genuinely needs.
Fact is, unless they wanna continue homogenizing *gags at using that word in a non-ironic context* the living crap out of the tanks, they need to push us significantly ahead in one of those 3 areas, or perhaps on par in one area and slightly ahead in another, while remaining behind in the third. Right now we have no niche, no specialty. None. Thats a big deal. Thats not "buff our DPS by 100 potency every 30 seconds and give us an extra 15% physical mitigation for 10s every 60s and we'll be good". Thats really bad. Even HW PLD had a niche. PLD was hands-down better than DRK in several Midas and Creator fights. This is just bad.

I think is stop being pasive and start to demand a fair balance on tanks bcs dosent like the dev team Will do It for own Will.
Funny how the main quest warning us "in our darkest hour"

it will be fun to see tomorrow fflogs and see how meny reclears were made whit DRK / WAR / PLD
War's shield has a lengthy cooldown, and robs you of any cooldowns you have active in exchange for more mitigation.
So thinking about it, it's not the equivalent of TBN. Inner Beast and Sheltron are better comparisons, IMO: costs gauge you want to use for DPS, in exchange for mitigation. The difference being the following:
*Inner Beast can only be used in Defiance
*Paladin Gauge can't be used for anything BUT defence, so they don't care
*TBN can be used on an ally.
So DRK has the best "whatever TBN fills", but it isn't enough to match up overall against other tanks.
