    Could Monks Possibly get a new non fist wep?

    So if you go through the temple of the fist you see monks listed as the way of the fist but you also see one listed as way of the lance and sword thematically in a new expansion we could get maybe like a Bo-staff it would be the same damage type as Blunt thematically and lore wise it could make sense and could add something to the kit what do you guys think?

    While it would be cool to have alternate weapons for jobs, this would add up to some serious development time. You have to extrapolate beyond the initial idea of this would be cool and realize that having multiple weapons would mean you need to create new animations as I can assure you that using a bow staff with the H2H animations would look outright silly. This leads us down the path of "me too", if SE decided to give Monk a sweet new bo-staff with the accompanying animations then other jobs would want the same treatment and suddenly they are looking at creating all sorts of new animation types.

    I'm aware that they gave Scythes to multiple jobs with a recent Mog store item but it's only because that some of the existing animations for these jobs sort of worked with it due to two hand weapon use. The concept of multiple weapons also existed in FFXI, however in that game the alternate weapons often were not as effective as your primary and if any jobs shared weapons such as clubs each of them shared weaponskill animations. The job that specialized in those weapons obviously got the better weaponskills to use with them, but that game also functions fundamentally different as FFXIV lives and dies by skill rotations.

    While it would be cool to have, SE would have to invest quite a bit of development time into making it functional and look cool, while at the same time bracing themselves for the inevitable request for other jobs to receive the same "special" treatment. I'm aware they have multiple teams working on things but the common perception on the forums is any time working on non-essential fluff is seen as taking away time from more glaring issue/QoL improvements.

    FFXI is still around and you can get into the game pretty cheap right now if you want to see how it worked out in that game, but it would be a great deal of work to work that into the meta here.

    However I am in agreement that it would be a great idea for them to continue to add alternate weapons that will work with the existing animations in the game, the aforementioned scythe and giant clubs work for Dark knight, Dragoon actually already has sort of a bo-staff, among other jobs. They could use the PvP glamour route and add new interesting weapon types there, personally I'd love to see a Mace/Holy Club weapon for Paladin.

    Going from a martial arts perspective, you are still taught familiarity with other weapons (spear, whip, nunchaku, tonfa, staff, kwan, wind and fire wheel, etc, depending on style/region of origin), but the core of the style is primarily focused on the body and hand-to-hand combat. Plus, FFXIV runs on the weapon defining the job you're playing, not to mention the animations would look incredibly weird with a staff.

    Well, lore-wise you're going from being a puglist to learning the way of a monk of the fist - so if there are other ways monks are fighting, thats not a way you've learned yet.
    Or, put a bit different: It sounds more like a general new job idea instead of an alternative weapon for our current monk. Look at all the monk-skills and their animations! They would have to be changed just in order for you to equip a different weapon - and then the game would always need to determine which set of animations to use, based on your weapon.

    If you wanna use something like a Bo-staff: Dragoon is your way to go, they already got some staff-like weapons (if you ask me, they're looking ridiculous, but if you're into that...)
    So, even if I've mentioned that it could be a new job rather than changing our current monk in that direction: I dont actually believe that that would be a good way to go either, since we already got the "staff/spear"-user covered with the dragoon. I'd rather see them working on actual new, intresting jobs with fresh take-ons than making some sort of a copy of existing jobs or, worse, wasting ressources on working on a second set of animations for one job.

    You know, in all seriousness I suppose SE could probably give MNK nunchaku. It doesn't overlap with any other current weapon, is extremely unlikely to be used for any future class, and would work pretty well with MNK's current skills and animations. The barehanded fighting style is still what appeals the most to me though and is the most iconic.

    I was just thinking about it lol It just kinda hit me looking in the temple and seeing that I was like it would be cool to be a monk with a staff kinda like Diablos monk I like the fist place style which is why I changed over from a goon main from 1.0 to a Monk (also I just couldnt take playing goon anymore for so long hahaha) Just got me thinking what changes could they do or add to monk in 5.0
