My FFXIV wishlist: Bestiary and rare game

Anyone remember the Bestiary in FFXII? I loved finding new monsters and learning about their lore. Especially with rare game and hunts. Also, by slaying so many of the same monster, you would unlock little bits of random lore, like info about guilds and clans and the like.

Not only that, but there were also really rare monsters (not hunts, just monsters) that would only appear with certain conditions met; whether it be appearing only in blizzards, when so many monsters had been slain, being on low health or just being a rare spawn in general. These monsters would also generally drop rare loot!

Personally, I would love to see these added to FFXIV. I loved hunting down all the monsters and learning about them in FFXII, and would really like do it here too. Having rare game added would also spice things up on the field, learning how to spawn them and hunt them down for goodies!

    What do you guys think?

I absolutely support this 100%! I have always wanted a bestiary for XIV.

    This isn't ffxii.
There are over 6000 enemies in the game. You can't possibly add so much bestiary.

Patch over time? And also why say this isnt FFXII? FF14 is far from original there is a lot from other games, especially the whole new raid was based on FF5.

Such negativity. This is why we can't have nice things.

On OP suggestion, yes, that would be awesome. We could get a Monster Hunter vibe from trying to fill up our bestiary - or, gasp, something we could do with our squadron! I'm sure if we get enough support for this, especially with the Letter happening today, we could get some support for this. Heck, I'd even volunteer to write out monster descriptions and all that.

Although I would love a bestiary to be added, I don't see it sadly happening I'm afraid simply due to the sheer volume of enemies being constantly added would chew up resources just to have to include each new enemy in the game in the bestiary. Not to mention enemy information can change wildly between patches, particularly data like HP and strength, and even names (an example of this is the sad story of the Crystal Tower raid with the enemy Phlegethon who was originally called Acheron when Labyrinth of the Ancients was first added, only to be changed later when another enemy was decided to be called that instead when Syrcus Tower went live, meaning the earlier enemy was renamed in a patch).

Hence it is this kind of issue that can cause too many development headaches to have to keep cross-referencing for a bestiary to actually work, thus I don't believe it's likely SE will bother sadly.

As for 'rare game', that is basically Notorious Monsters from FFXI and FFXIV 1.0, which, had too many problems of being riddled with botters camping their spawn points, especially ones which dropped rare gear like you suggested. That whole sordid affair is clearly something SE wants to move away from hence NMs initially became FATEs that didn't (usually) drop gear or rewards and anyone could participate, with the next best thing to NMs being later added as Hunts. Accordingly, I don't believe SE are going to revert back to the bad old FFXI days of bots camping 24-hour spawn window NMs like Shikigami Weapon and honest players being unable to get a look in.

'This is why we can't have nice things' and all that.

    Likely not to happen but.

If a an mmo made by the same developers did it with wide scan this can do it as well.

    Fix to botting:
Rare NM are popped like a guildleve.

Normal monsters work like Widescan only here when scanning over the name of targeted creature a graphic box pops up stating relevant info and lore.

Here would be more like a QOL though because not much in the open world is relevant besides hunts.
