Early in FFXIV alpha and beta, the battles were extremely long and rather boring. I was glad to see they sped them up in phase 3. As far as the mouse functionality goes, I would love to see SE implement a hardware mouse at the very least.
I have to agree with someone you did say, "Faster Battle system doesn't necessarily mean faster battles". If a battle is long and boring then not much work has gone into the development/ design of that battle or enemy hence the meaning of poor AI/ mob behavior.

Adding more HP isn't good design. Unique behavior and enemy AI plays a part in interesting battles. It's a gamble when taking on a "even match" or something worse. Minions shouldn't be all that challenging compared to Notorious Monsters and bosses. I'm referring to "Long & Boring" VS "Fast & Furious" which could almost result in becoming boring too. Lesser mobs shouldn't be as weak in big number as they are now. The AI for every mob in the game is pretty much the same causing the MMO to feel flat and un-exciting. Shame no one will remember to low level events, monsters or areas because everyone is rushing to the top.
