If you JUST said longer fights I would be VERY against it, but yeah - that disclaimer at the end is fine.
Ya, I thought people would say no if the exp was slower (people don't like leveling slow I found). ME on the other hand wish it was slow like FFXI ^.^ that's just me. I liked the idea of running into a few 75s in the beggining towns then you moved to jeuno and there were lots of 75s but most of those people only had one job 75.

There really isn't any reason for me to use the other spells/abilities or combos(can you even get combos off?). Which will bring me to my next point, longer fights will teach you how to use those other abilities. If things go wrong, you will also learn what to do in a panic situation for ifrit, moogle, and other big fights. The longer fights would have adjusted exp for em as well. So, the whole "Get less exp" argument is out of the window as well.

So, would you guys like longer fights that are more engaging?

    Vote NO here!
you are the one who determines the length of the fight. if its too easy do something harder that takes longer. If its still easy dont bring a full party. if its still to easy solo it.

i was doing gc leves and the stars were too high. i was getting over 1k xp but not having enough time to finish cause the fights were taking too long.

I like the longer fights. I think everyone does, that i've talked to at least. I've brought this up a few times in the past, too. Spells like poison/dia/bio are useless when the mob dies in 5-10 seconds. Make them live longer, and this will fix the problem where you can get to 50 in hours instead of weeks.

I remember going into crawlers nest, partying for 2-3hr, and getting half a level, or most of a level. In this game, that's 2-3+ levels. I'm starting an 8+ year commitment with this game. I don't need super rapid fire content, slow and steady will get the most for me.

There's a problem with that, if you are solo, you can only kill soo high, and that cap is normally pretty dramatic. Then you go to a party and then you go and try and kill higher level stuff then you get links, you will instantly wipe.

I like a mix of both to be honest.

That's how I feel, it's harder to have a 8 year long game when you can just get to 50 in really a weeks time, they would have to be pulling content out their butts at least once a month

Absolutely agreed on the exp reward. For a quest that you can only do once, the exp rewards for them are really pathetic. They need a drastic increase in exp, and in a lot of cases better gear/gil rewards. Also sign me up for longer, in depth quests with some nice cut scenes. As far as longer battles, so long as exp is adjusted so the leveling progression is roughly the same, I don't care either way.

Do people remember Dhamel and Goblin XP parties in buburimu ? the risk especially with those goblins was one of the things I used to love about FFXI, of course then SE added Colibrii 1 mins fights and it all when to S***

I agree with the above post regarding side quests also, its pretty standard in MMO's these days for questing to be the main aspect of leveling a character, I'm hoping Yoshi-p plans to bring in decent quests in 2.0, he says hes played other MMO's so he must be aware of it.

No no and no. Normal mobs should die fast like that. Absolutely no reason to have grind battles becoming longer and more boring. No reason whatsoever. If you want longer battles ask them to implement quasi-NM mobs, minibosees, pack leaders or whatever. Or more quests with quest mobs different or maybe harder than the usual roaming mobs. Or mobs that need specific conditions met to efficiently kill them. Or actually ANYTHING that provides more variety in the battle system and makes grinding feel less of a chore. There are so many options. It's supposed to be fun, remember? Leave the XI mentality to die. It's an artifact/legacy game now and should be treated as such from now on. Borrow good things from it but keep it to a minimum.

Leave the XI mentality to die? It's not xis mentality, it's my mentality. That's what I enjoy not killing things in 1 hit, how is that fun?
