I can only really compare to FFXI but I preferred not having to move about while grinding. Each to their own though.

I am okay with camps of stationary mobs as long as they are displayed in at least some manner of logic. Humanoid characters like deathstroke/venomtongues posted outside a cane entrance or tent. Antling diggers circled around a small puddle of water as if drinking. As long as they are not lined up, stationary, and immoble just anywhere randomly.

What I don't get, is why eveyone want to complain about more active battles yet they don't even wantto move 3 yalms between mobs to get the XP.

The best part though in the general lack of knowledge to the point that the OP actually thinks that stationary mobs on rows, circles, or just a general area are unique to or invented in FFXI.

Uh... no. The only offline FF games that ever had any amount of mandatory, tedious grinding were the old NES games. Every single one after that allowed you to get strong enough to complete the entire main story simply by killing whatever you happened to bump into as you progressed. You never had to stop for hours just to go grind.

It isn't that people have ADD, it's that they have lives. People want to be able to enjoy a game without it sucking up every last moment of their free time (a major fault that all the old school MMOs were guilty of, including FFXI).

Plus, many people who were in high school ten years ago have since gotten older, grown up, and taken on more adult responsibilities. As such, they have less free time than they did when they were younger, and so newer games should reflect that change in lifestyle.

since quest based progression requires you to grind mobs anyway

There is no difference between sitting at spot X and killing 10 mobs
or being told by an npc to go to spot X and kill 10 mobs

since thats literaly all the difference is, is thgat an npc is telling you to do it
Actually, the quest based grinding is more interesting because it feeds you a constant stream of stories, forces you to fight a wider variety of monsters, and leads you around the game's environment so that you end up exploring areas you probably wouldn't see otherwise. Those are all things that you don't get in straight up grinding. So no, the two methods of leveling are not the same.

SE almost had it right with Guildleves, but they messed it up by severely limiting how many you could do, making you repeat the same ones over and over again, and presenting the stories in a very boring way (seriously, getting quests from the exact same NPC every single time is neither interesting nor fun).

The newer, modified quest system is pretty good. SE just needs to make it more efficient to level off the quests, as well as adding more of them and making them more imaginative.

Minus all sarcasm, people that don't have the spare time to afford to playing an MMO probably shouldn't play MMO's. Even in XI, with anywhere from 2-4 hrs. per day you could get a lot accomplished if things went well. It's all relative anyhow and has very little to do with the general difficulty of the game. People that have a lot of time are naturally going to progress much faster than those who don't. Why not make it an interesting experience for everyone, meantime?

Honestly, this kind of setup allows for more roles to be played and really enhances the depth of combat and group dynamics.

    Anyone out there agree?
I agree. In future there is sure to be camps that are so tough that if you chain pull you die, so that'll bring back the old ways of pulling and camping safely.

I agree.... I went from 46 CNJ to 50 CNJ in one night.. a few hours! I went through the 40s so quickly I didn't even notice I learned sleep till a couple levels!

Makes me wonder what is the point of levelling?
I had 'thought' the point of levelling was to 'learn' how to play your character and interact with others (in parties).
I levelled so fast that I hardly know my character or what to do in a party.
It seems 'at 50' is 'when the game really begins'. Which begs the question: Why bother with 1-49?

Anyways, slight digression from the topic, aside from the fact that this may be a result of feeding the desire to 'level level level' 'faster faster faster' mentality (which is perhaps why there is no stationary camps).

Your post rings only too true.

I mean, in my opinion, theres something terribly wrong when crafting literally takes 10x longer to level than the battle in an mmorpg.

IMO, swap the rates of battle with craft/gatherers :S

Maybe it would be less of a daunting task if they made crafting/gathering more fun.
