I think its a great idea, the addition will not take anything from the game. It happens to be one of those things that nay-sayers can simply not use. While those that use it can benefit from it. It does need to use the defensive parameters that can be changed and examined like you would get in games like WoW.

When mannequins first came out in FFXI, some of us thought they would be test dummies. Having a dummy in our personal spaces would be nice.

Shouldn't be hard to implement something like that, they have the training dummies in places like the Gladiator and Pugilist guilds already. Could easily set up an NPC that stands next to a training dummy in each of the cities. Talking to them lets you set up a special instanced area allowing you to spawn a training dummy in the area. It doesn't move, doesn't do anything but stand there. You're instantly given full MP/TP while in this instance to practice as many moves/spells as you want. Leaving the instanced area removes the effect. If in a party you can teleport everyone into the instance to practice on a single or multiple targets.

The dummies themselves would be impervious to death like the floating eyes in Dzemael Darkhold allowing you to wail on them endlessly.

Oh yeah, this is a great idea!
Plus will be good if we can make some properties e.g. spells on Goobbue (Pro, Shells, some abilities DEF+)
Will be also nice if they allow as reinsert our points (inside testing zones), so we can see what parameters are better than others on each jobs.

Have not seen this work very well in most games, depends how you do it, unless dummys have a level ranges.

Also just because you do X DPS on Dummy level 50, does not mean you will do X DPS on Mob Level 50 due to attribute types and resistances, buffs, debuffs you have, positioning, all that good stuff.

The damage against NMs/Bosses/Mobs seem way too varied that cannot be just grouped into a "1 setting fits all" that will work for a dummy...

that would be awesome! Something for your residence. Maybe you can click the dummy to set its "level" or other values to get an idea of how much damage you do against that level. You could just make the dummy's level scale with the level of the person using it. How about adding different monster types for dummy practice that adjust the resistances of the npc? I really like this idea.

My only complaint to test dummies, isn't to NOT have them, but having such limited options.

What about testing combos of hate holding?

In general, I think an MMO should offer allot of these kinds of things, so people can test a bit easier.
(Most of what isn't mentioned can be practiced outside rather easily, but not necessarily for long periods of time, since failing, leads to returning back to the last camp)

For those who didn't play WoW:
Practice dummies were in each city and had varying ranges (level 60, 70, 80, heroic boss level). They were stationary targets that didn't attack or move and just allowed any person to target them and blast away spells, melee attacks, items, whatever you wanted to do. They never die and mainly serve the point to practice your class rotations, parse and measure dps with different gear sets, testing out macros or items, and whatever else you can think of.

I think this would be an invaluable tool for the players of FFXIV. It would help players practice there combo's and test how different stats affect them, and in the future when 3rd party add-ons can be used in the game there could be a lot of additional use that helps people to play at a higher skill level.

I'd suggest putting them in every city, maybe in an area that doesn't have as much traffic to help spread people through the city more. And I'd also suggest making several different levels (e.g. 25, 50, 60, 65 [primals]).

It would be great if this could be seen before 2.0, however unlikely that is. Maybe it's possible to implement a temporary solution (e.g. a Goobbue that doesn't move or attack and never dies). It doesn't have to be fancy.

Anyway - this is something I think would help a lot of players learn to play all classes and help with learning combos.
this would be nice to have in your mog house

It'd like to see this build into the private company houses that are meant to be in development.

It would be cool to go to an instanced area of our private companies, to a training area with a dummy stood in the middle, a party could then practice tanking and strategys against it.

If the dummy was a robot that had to be crafted by carpenter/blacksmiths/goldsmiths/armourers as part of the group crafting, you could also have several types, that would act like their corresponding monsters. Obviously you couldn't really do every monster in the game, but a small, medium and large sized monster, that hits for 0 damage but reacts to things properly, and displays aggro etc.

I'd find this very useful for practicing skills where positioning of team mates is required and timing is necessary.
