    20+GB Version Update on PS4 still occurring

    A friend of mine got the infamous update again after losing power tonight, due to bad weather. He was playing at the time, and upon restarting the console he got this. Now he's saying he's quitting the game, since he already had to redownload it 3 times back before the PSN update in July. He didn't have any issue after that update until today, so... what happened? Is there anything he could do, or could Sony/Square at least investigate? Wasn't there a PS4 update few days ago, could it be the issue?
    I'm posting this because my friend is really disheartened and won't post himself, but I don't want him to quit the game
    He has a really bad internet though (takes 3 days to download the game) so I'd understand him... it's just weird that the issue was resolved and is now back.

    Yea your friend is not alone. I logged out at gold saucer last night, like normal no power shut off etc. I go to play this morning and bam 22gb update. This is ridiculous now we received no compensation for early access downtime/unplayable duty server crashes. Nor for the constant kicks from ddos then for client crashes and redownloading 22gb during EA hit tons of people multiple times I like this persons friend redownloaded 3 times and now a 4th which is honestly baffling as there was no crash power outage etc. SE needs to start reimbursing subscription time or at least send out an apology mog letter with a silly item something to prove at least they acknowledge us and appreciate those of us who have and are sticking through these horrendous "bugs" redownloading and trying to play through early access which was a horrible excuse for a pay to stress test the new content.

    It's likely due to the fact it's Sony's issue not SE that people have not been compensated. I do think SE should put more pressure on Sony about helping customers out with this issue, because simply the customer doesn't care whose fault it is - they care that it's happening. What I don't like is how Sony doesn't really address its updates making them look to be more benign so much that gaming sites usually make fun of their system updates "stability performances" as like its nothing...when it does in fact affect certain games. Sony needs to be more open about what those "stability updates" actually do.

    ...and didn't know that Sony, fixed a backend feature that should be stated as "fixed features that improve and fixes the functionality of certain games" instead of "improves the quality of the system performance." it's vague description doesn't reveal that sometimes Sony messes up a feature for how the games play, and people would probably put more pressure on Sony, than the game makers on resolving issues like this.

    The best SE can do is put up a warning on their Lodestone News Topics.

    I have recently come into this problem was well. I've never had any real problem with the games downloads, but yesterday morning, the game had a pretty sizeable patch, which was also taking a very long time, slower than normal download speeds. I decided to check my connection and router, and nothing was changed, so I just did a simple reset, and this did not fix my problem. So instead of spending 3-5 hours trying to download the patch during the day, and lock-up my PS4 so as to not allow myself to play other games, I decided to wait until I went to bed, and then just AFK patch it over night. Wake up this morning and I get a "Failed to Patch" with an error code, which in hindsight, I should have wrote down. anyways, long story short, I'm having the same issues, I'm gonna be patient and wait for a fix from either sony or SE, but I wanted to make sure This thread gets some more notice.

    Just got this issue a few minutes ago. Started the launcher, then the software keyboard froze when i tried to enter my password which crashed the application. I went back in, and now it's trying to download a 22gb patch.

    This was supposed to be resolved ages ago. In fact, there was a Lodestone post saying it had been resolved, so why is this still happening? I know it doesn't mean much to anyone but I was quite looking forward to playing this evening. Sadly because of this stupid problem my time, and the subscription I pay, has been wasted. amongst this and all the issues at 4.0 launch I really don't know why I continue to put up with this.

    I think people should mention what software build they are on with their PS4. It can help at least diagnose the problem. I mean PS4's software, not FFXIV launcher.

    You can't go online with your PS4 unless you're on the latest firmware

    Doesn't matter, about every time there is a technical issue...it's asked to get as much system information from people experiencing the problem. So firmware, and even area/region can go a long way. Even more so since this seems to be a problem with Sony, than SE.
