They decided that the class/job system is a failure (personally I just think that they simply fail to understand how to make use of it, but whatever), so adding another step is pretty much impossible. They would love to remove the classes altogether if not for the fact that it would require a lot of work. Instead, they bring nothing but new jobs that do not come out from any class. You can't expect to see another "class" in the future. Only stand-alone jobs.
Oh, I know its highly unlikely, but nothing is beyond fixing. They probably could if they wanted to, but they did deem it as a bit of a failure. I was just saying it'd be nice. The class/job system had potential, but it ended up being a mess. They decided that the class/job system is a failure (personally I just think that they simply fail to understand how to make use of it, but whatever), so adding another step is pretty much impossible. Yes. Unfortunately, whoever was responsible for making the job branches for Arcanist did so while he was drunk or after few sleepless nights, because making a DPS branch into a healer is blatantly stupid. And that added a LOT of negatives to the class/job system.
I wish they would actually "upgrade" the system, so that it's more than a rename with some new skills, making it pretty much mandatory. But that would take actual effort and thought. Something that Square Enix have no interest in. This game was supposed to be based on Tactics roughly, but they have proven to have intention of removing every single thing that made Tactics what it is...except for the lone fact of one character being able to do it all. Well, the game is still entertaining, but it does leave a bad taste. It may be because they apparently end up funneling majority of the money from FFXIV into OTHER projects, using it as nothing more than "cash cow" that shouldn't be spent on more than necessary.
in 5.0 there doing away with class and replace with Jobs
Now that I'm thinking about it, I'll add a few more.
Viking: Shortspear/Harpoon and shield, far more aggressive use of the shield as well as use of lightning magic for damage, water magic for crowd controlling effects (draw-ins, etc.) and ice magic for defensive cooldowns. Maybe some lore that would give some better lore to the origins of the Sea Wolf Roegadyns.
Green Mage: This would bring both a caster tank and a hammer-wielder. Maybe something that could tie it to Dravania pre-Dragonsong War.
Charioteer: Something like the Bravely Second class that could be built around alternating weapon types in combat.
Juggler: I don't care how they fit this in, but I would gladly pay good money to see this happen.
Agent: Something that would play like Saboteur in Rift with a more spy-based storyline to it.
I like see some job for preview ffxiv like beast master blue mage and puppetmaster and geomancer I think they doable unlike some do.
I actually would really like a Mystic Knight job, since it's one of my favorites from the series. Of course, some sort of Drain III Blade skill would be on my wishlist, since that's a pretty common tactic for the job historically. Also using debuff sword magic could be an interesting dynamic.
I do think adding at least one more tank and healer each to the roster might help balance things out. The Chemist healer idea seems pretty solid to me, or Geomancer could be very viable. For tanks, perhaps the Ravager job from Tactics A2, or maybe Templar?
Alright I know I said I'd keep it a secret but I can't any longer. The fourth class I've come up with is...Gambler! I was really inspired when I came across Setzer while doing research for my class renditions for Blue Mage, Necromancer and Dancer. Basically Gambler is a nod to FFXV's villain as his overall design struck me for my rendition of the Job. It uses darts for its main weapon, and Deck's as the, almost completely forgotten, secondary tool. It also deals with minor time based attacks.
with adventure squadron and the new minion plus ability have your chocobo out this could be good step for beastmaster to introduce in 5.0 and other pet jobs it also mean that summoner could be get improvements too
