3k+ DPS is tank DPS though, I think you mean 4k++.Tanking is easy. Healing is not much harder. so WHY does it have to be so difficult to do passable dps in this game?
My warrior easily outdpses my black mage in ex trials becuase black mage has to juggle a short timer with a fairly complex rotation, while white mage can do about half as much damage by spamming ONE button!
If anyone can offer advice or help I'd appreciate it becuase I'm about ready to give up on dps in this game. definitely not the easy job it's made out to be, dps should be commended on their dedication and months of practice they put in to get that 3k+ dps.
But yeah if it comes to DPS I would never recommend BLM to a beginner or someone not skilled enough to get the most out of it as BLM is one of the more complicated jobs imo.

Well in my case I can say with certainty that I'm not good at certain dps jobs. I make an absolutely terrible Samurai for example, but I make a pretty decent Bard(my Bard DPS is higher than as SAM). I just didn't click very well with Samurai. Got suuuuuper bored with it after a while too. What i mean by this is some people are better at some things while others are better at another.

As for DPS being harder than tanks, ehhh, all about practice honestly, some classes are harder to work with than others for different people, but with a bit of patience and enthusiasm, you will be doing well in no time, it doesn't take months of effort to reach high numbers, just a bit of foresight and optimisation (as in, knowing a fight well enough to know whats coming and adjusting accordingly) Practice makes perfect.

This topic seems to have devolved from asking for BLM advice into telling people they what they consider acceptable dps and ignoring everyone asking for more info on how to actually get better

Well, the op did give up on blm by about the second/third page, it didn't take very long.

I had this problem with BLM and thought the job was the problem. Then, come to find out, the problem was that I wasn't playing it right. I suggest going to the blm section of the forums and learning what others do. Much as I hate to admit it, sometimes the problem is me.

Echoing Jijifli, this false equivalency of jobs being unquestionably easier than others verses being case by case, just look at the players who main tanks. They find it easy, but it absolutely requires a different skill set from DPS, particularly with being the party's lead player. Getting past the whole "everyone is watching me" is much easier for certain people.

Echoing this. For a DPS main, healing and tanking looks extremely difficult due to the perceptions of the extra responsibility compared to DPS, plus if you mess up, it's a heck of a lot easier to notice you're messing up. However, people like me thrive upon that pressure, and makes it easier for us. Difficulty is a very subjective thing. To counter those DPS mains who find DPS easy as pie, I find DPS very difficult. I'm used to the heavy responsibilities associated with being tank or healer, take that pressure away from me and I start to crumble because of my psyche.Echoing Jijifli, this false equivalency of jobs being unquestionably easier than others verses being case by case, just look at the players who main tanks. White Mage ~ Scholar ~ PaladinBoi if you got kicked for the same thing in over 20 duties I strongly suggest you think hard on whatever the hell it is you're doing
As I'm sure you are well aware, it takes more than one person to be able to kick a player from a duty, so in all those instances there were at least two people agreeing they'd be better off without you tanking.

I wouldn't call it "very" subjective.
There are certainly different skillsets at play, such as how many things on your screen you can keep track of, how many skills in a chain you can memorize, how far into the future you can project your actions, how fast you can react to things etc. Brains don't all work alike in that regard. And all of those skills are needed on all of the jobs, some simply require a bit more of one, where another requires more of another.
As an objective measure of difficulty, there's complexity, because the more complex a job (or role) is, the more of any or all of the above skills you will need to succeed. It is simply rationally undeniable that keeping track of two things at a time is harder than keeping track of one thing and that reacting to things fast is harder than reacting to them more slowly. You might as well argue that one litre of water contains more water than two litres of water.
That said, do not mistake stress for difficulty. Difficulty often induces stress, but that doesn't mean the two can be equated. You can get very stressed while being taken through a rollercoaster, but that doesn't make riding a rollercoaster hard - you don't even do anything, you're passively strapped to a seat. Having the heck scared out of you by a spider has no difficulty associated with it either. On the flipside, you can rack your brain in a very difficult puzzle feeling relaxed, rather than stressed. And what people commonly associate with the tank or healer role is not difficulty, it's stress.
I have trouble recording the game on my machine which is why I don't have videos to show.
Also my 2.7k with warrior is with item level 320ish.
to be fair I might do more than 3k dps with the level 50 black mage rotation considering the level 50 rotation is just so much easier to do correctly.
