    An Expansion on Cross-Realm Activities

    Hey guys,

Now, I've noticed that SE are implementing cross-realm LS's, FC's, friend lists, etc. They are clearly pushing in the direction of more cross-realm interaction. Here's the thing, currently you can only play with each other cross-realm in instanced duty, so here's my proposition.

Allowing a way to enter the overworld of other realms, so let's say you play on Louisoix, you could join a friend on Odin. You simply add them to party, and then right click their name and "Transfer to realm". Once you leave the party, you will be instantly transported back to your own realm (in this case Louisoix).

There will be a few limitations though.
    • Certain mobs won't be targetable (perhaps make it the Elite hunt mobs that can't be targeted, so you can do FATEs together at least?).
    • You will not be able to buy housing on realms other than your own realm (but you will be able to visit housing in other realms)
    • You will not be able to interact with the marketboards of other realms (but you may be able to trade with players there, I'll have to consider that one). if you try to interact with the marketboard on another realm it will just treat it as if you were still on your realm

What do people think to this? Would it make a nice expansion on the cross-realm stuff they're planning? I also think it would ignite a fire on smaller realms and help populate them, because you can have housing and still do most of your stuff with friends. So smaller realms will populate, more people will engage with them, and the population can be more evenly spread.

Let me know as well what other features you'd like to see.

As I'm sure you are well aware, it takes more than one person to be able to kick a player from a duty, so in all those instances there were at least two people agreeing they'd be better off without you tanking.

I think this would be "dangerous" for realms that are already congested, like balmung. People will surely get really angry if they have ridiculous queues because people who don't even belong in their world are hanging out there and taking up space. That being said, though, I think it would be cool if you could have an instanced room or something that everyone can enter together. Sort of like that instanced housing everyone keeps asking for. This way you could all chill together and just chat without a timer for the trail/dungeon/etc. You could decorate the space to get good screenshots together, etc.

Why not do it the other way, players can only go to servers with low population?

I suppose this could work, although I imagine that the draw to this will be that people on small servers can connect with people on larger servers. So, for example... I'm on a very low pop server (Zalera). Getting into a large free company that fits my needs would be difficult here, but with a x-server FC function, I could join one in...say, Gilgamesh. With the FC being from Gilgamesh, it seems to make more sense for me to go there than for them to all go to my server (for events, etc), especially when it can be assumed that the majority of members will be on the home server. Though just to hang out with friends, it would work fine.

But yes, there would definitely need to be limitations to avoid abuse.

Perhaps then a system could be applied that if there's currently a queue to enter the realm all players "guesting" on said realm will be automatically and instantly kicked back to their home realm. This way queues don't cause that level of anger because it is already covered.

One of the aims I was looking for was getting people doing FATEs together and visiting each others housing (though maybe they'd have to split the housing wards themselves into new servers separate from those used to log in and play in the rest of the overworld for this to work without them getting kicked back to their realm in the event of a queue). While your idea would make a good compromise for interactions WITHOUT being stuck in a timed duty, it unfortunately doesn't address the aims I had in mind. Still a good idea though, I'll give you that.

Lower servers would have the advantage listed above of that they're unlikely to have queues to enter (or if they do have queues, they're infrequent), so you're less likely to get booted back to your home realm as a result (though if you're on a congested realm like Balmung, I'm not sure how we can avoid you being thrown back into a queue should that happen).

Simple, the timed nodes and your access to them will be based as if you're still on your home realm. So you can't realm jump to farm multiple rare nodes quicker.

Don't have the source to hand (I'm sure someone does though), but they've said they are working on it. I even complained a few weeks ago about how cross-realm FCs wouldn't work because of the housing aspect over it and was told it was still coming so... I do have the belief that it is coming.

However with the queues involved, it might be less problematic to just move people over to one of the smaller realms for the events. I can see your point though, but for the housing aspect which most likely would have a house on Gilgamesh in your example, people would just be automatically teleported to the housing area on that realm outside the house.

But who told you this? Lol. A GM? A Dev? Doubtful. All we know (confirmed) is that we have chatrooms instead of LS/FC.

While I can see the benefit for small servers (besides the trading, that could mess up economy), what of the big servers? Balmung is locked completely due to congestion, allowing people to server hop to it negate that.

Edit: someone beat me to it :^)

As a quick note: We're not getting cross-server LS/FCs. We're getting x-server friends list and 'chat rooms' (not sure how they differ from LS, but i'm holding hope that it'll be integrated with the new mobile app.) (lol, something convenient RIP)

We aren't getting them this patch, but they've already said they're working on x-server LSs and FCs. They're slowly adding more and more x-server features.
