Controller disconnecting/reconnecting & Error message when exiting the game

    Hello,

Recently this past month I've been having my XB360 wired controller randomly disconnecting and reconnecting on me. Sometimes I'll need to unplug it and plug it back in to get it to work again. However, it has gotten worse now. It will disconnect and won't work once I plug it back in even though i'm hearing the sound of it connecting to windows and then when I exit out of the game it displays an error message. Please see screenshot below of error. I'm not having any problems with the controller in other games. I've tested it with several other games from Skyrim to Battlefield 1 and this is the only game I experience this issue on. Anyone know what may be the cause of this or how I might resolve it? Thanks in advance!

EDIT: The windows button in the center works while everything else doesn't in game. I can even navigate on the sub menu from that button press, but nothing in game registers my controller presses.

Controller: Microsoft XBox 360 Wired Controller
    FFXIV: Steam copy
    OS: Windows 10
    Version: 1703
    Build: 15063.608
    GPU: AMD R9 380

Appears that this is two separate issues. The DX11 errors I believe I have resolved by rolling back my AMD drivers to 17.7.1 with a clean install. However, my controller is still randomly disconnecting and acting dead occasionally. Even though it works when I alt-tab out and test it on something else. I can hear the beep when I unplug and plug it in too. If anyone knows what this could be caused by please let me know.

I'm at a complete loss. The controller just completely stopped working on me again. I went into windowed mode and had the device manager open and when it died it flashed like it was searching the hardware for changes, made a beep, and stopped working. I can see it active in the Device Manager. It works in EVERY OTHER program/game EXCEPT in FFXIV... so I dunno what to do? I don't want to buy another controller and possibly have this happen again to the new one. The only alternative I can think of is to completely give up on using a controller at all and buy an MMO mouse... and completely adapt to playing another way... *sigh*

Anyone have this problem before and know how to fix it? Totally lost here...

(I have not seen the DX11 errors since rolling back to the older driver)

I've been using xbox 360 wired controllers for a long time now, and usually when this starts happening it's time to get a new controller as the connectors to the circuit board inside the wire start to become loose and you start having connectivity issues.

You can test this by moving the wire around close to where it goes into the controller itself and see if you get the connect/disconnect windows sounds while moving the wire.

If it's not this, then it could be an issue with either the USB connector or the USB port on your computer. Trying using different USB ports and see if you have the same problem.

XIV sometimes has problems recognizing USB devices that are connected while the client is already running, so if your controller lost connection for some reason while the client is running, it may not register your button presses until you restart the client. This could explain why it seems like your controller stopped working only in XIV.

Thanks! I think it might be the wire you mentioned... but that it weird because I'm not having issues in other games with it. However, when I wiggle it at the base of the controller while in FFXIV it turns on and off. So I went into the other room and yanked off my PS4 controller and plugged it into my PC and it works just fine after calibrating it in game. So I'll just use that until I get a new controller... or i'll just go grab an mmo mouse. Case closed I guess.
