The community is pretty great sometimes

Given how awful the community feels towards healers sometimes, I wanted to share this story from last night.

Did Ala Mhigo in Expert roulette. I had a terrible night, and I sucked. Horribly. Caused a wipe on trash by throwing up DB too early, aggroing stuff before the tank had it, and getting flattened. Wiped a couple of times trying to do the giant pull with the dogs (I tend to think that's too big, but I can usually do it). Then somehow managed to die on the second boss, which has never happened before, but that didn't cause a wipe. I mean how does a HEALER even die on that guy?

So I apologized to people for all the mistakes. You know what they said? "It's cool, no worries, you'll get it."

That's it. We kept going, finished it, and that was it. I'm sure nobody was going to give me healer of the year after that, but nobody was kicking, yelling, insulting, or anything. It honestly felt pretty great to get some words of encouragement when I needed them.

They even gave me two pity commendations.

Amid all the doom and gloom, just remember that there's some pretty great folks also playing.

I'm glad you are encountering forgiving groups. Honestly after playing 3 years, 95% of the groups are really cool with anything. But you'll always run into that group from hell every once and a while Never let those guys bring you down.

Mistakes happen and we all were noobs once. Some people forget that small fact.

Try all the way up to the cannons after that. It takes everyone in the group being basically capable but now it's one of my favorite things to do with a good tank.

I have definitely seen some really kind, forgiving groups. I feel like admitting your mistakes and apologizing for the wasted time is usually enough to soften up most people.

Sometimes DF after a long string of pugging EX or raids is actually kinda a culture shock. We spend time on the forums as well, another place people are more apt to talk about the bad than the good, but in a random casual dungeon with people who have DF expectations... sometimes it's nice to not be so focused on optimization and precasting so the tank doesn't die to the next auto attack because he is in DPS stance because if not you will hit enrage.

Pugging/PFing the EX primals and the little bit of Savage I've done is definitely just a 100% different game than running a roulette that's for sure. I'm glad we have the options to do both.

This has been my experience, too.

People have been really understanding when I've messed up.

I try my best to apologize and be as approachable as possible. Being vocal helps a ton!

People won't usually hurt someone who's openly vulnerable, and letting myself be vulnerable is how I defuse a lot of potentially volatile situations.

If I let myself be vulnerable, others usually follow, and we all become aware of how hard we're really trying, our shortcomings, and what we can do to improve.

Yeah, as much as we may talk about players, or playing jobs more optimally, and the like you'd be surprised that it's okay to mess up. Even after a night of raiding, jump into roulette with some pugs, it's kind of expected to lower expectations quite a bit. Okay so we aren't pulling big here, or maybe the healer is fairly new. It's okay. Or this dungeon is i310 sync, everyone is on the same ilvl kind of thing.

It's the same way with high-end content, generally the better players will be self-aware they made mistake(s), and mention what they did wrong and no harm, dust off and pull again.

Nope. Get that one quite a lot and in my experience it's far more common to do it as two pulls (the two Avenger packs, and then everything else). Keeping the dogs seperate from everything else is also pretty common in melee heavy groups.

    YMMV.

I tend to see a pretty even split between just the two avenger packs or both avengers + dogs. Only time I've had the full Avengers to cannon pull is with a tank I queued with. I'm not a huge fan of it on WHM though TBH, there's so much aoe ground spam going on especially if you end up on the stairs that it's pretty much impossible to holy spam. It usually devolves to trying to bait the avenger aoes away and then diving in for a holy or two before the canon hammer aoes come in to force you back out again. Not particularly fun once Hallowed/LD/Holmgang has run it's course.

The community truly isn't bad. As someone else said, played for three years. Never really seen anyone complain when I screwed up and I am very forgiving with people if it happens. It is in fact one of the best communities ive been fortunate enough to be apart of~
