I've actually never taken drain off ever since I got it now that I think about it, so no trouble there ^_^ Though I only adapted Lucid Dreaming because I read in the healer forums that it's a "staple" for the role, though the reduction in threat generation helps too I feel...

If you're level 50, then yes Ironworks gear is pretty good, can take you up to level 55 or so...
It hasn't always been a bad class, a few patches before there weren't as many complaints about the class....
I guess the reason that SCH heals are low is probably because Eos was made to compensate for it, probably, at least that's how I think it is.
