Standard versus Legacy camera controls question (controller)

    Hello.

I'd just like to ask a couple questions for anyone who knows the answers.

I play with a controller (though I actually play on PC with it), and I've always used the Standard (character-based) movement/camera settings. This came with several quirky benefits, and just as many issues. While I love being able to strafe and backstep, it does have one critical issue, which seems to be a bug of some sort. For a brief moment after being released from certain movement-binding effects (including Gaols and Permafrost), the directional controls go haywire. If I move too quickly after being released, my character will move in a random direction, instead of the direction that I am telling it to move. This can cause serious gameplay issues, such as being unable to move out of AoEs properly (for example, trying to slide out of the fireballs in O1S).

Legacy mode does not have this issue. And in most other respects, it feels quite similar to Standard mode, and I'd be willing to switch but for one exceptionally annoying thing: camera drift.

It's not drift, strictly speaking, but the camera does adjust itself slightly based on the direction the character is facing. To me, this feels really unnatural, because I like standard movement/camera control schemes, where the left analog controls ONLY the character, and the right analog controls the camera. As it stands, in Legacy mode, if the left analog stick isn't held perfectly straight, the camera feels like it's drifting to the left/right, even though for all intents and purposes, I am moving straight ahead.

Simply put, is there a way to turn the automatic camera adjustment off in Legacy mode?

Alternatively, does anyone know if there is a setting that can prevent the directional glitch from happening in Standard mode?

    Thanks for your help.

That 'drift' is something I barely noticed after years of playing in Legacy mode XD

You cant turn it off so to speak, but its actually kind of useful. You can see just a little further when you are making sharper turns in higher stress areas (savage).
I can see how you might not like it after being used to such a static camera, but honestly I think its trivial when you gain so much more movement freedom ^^.

I'm trying to get used to Legacy right now. I'm sure I'll get used to it, but what's even more annoying about the drift isn't even the little drift now that I've tried it out. It's still annoying, but what is worse is that I can't "look-ahead" for where I'm going very easily. For example, I just did Temple of the Fist and usually I'd turn the camera to look diagonally while moving "forward" down the hallway (so that I can see what's ahead without actually moving in that direction). In Legacy, though, the moment I let go of the right analog for custom camera positioning, the camera automatically moves back to its automatic position. I can't properly look in a different direction from the way I'm facing except for forwards/backwards. It still works, but a lot of the time I have to keep nudging the camera back to where I want it, then it slides back to its default position, then I nudge it again, and again, and again.

This happens with a mouse and keyboard as well. I've just casually walked off of ledges so many times because of it. I don't know why it happens, but I've adopted the habit of turning my character in place to make sure they and my camera are synced again (that's the only thing I can come up with causing the issue) before I actually commit to movement.

As for a specific setting, I can't say I've found one.

Never backpedal. It'll get you killed.

It's actually useful in a few ridiculously niche ways, but it's not a big loss :S...

I didn't mean I used it to literally back myself out of the middle of an AoE. But for minor positioning without messing up my camera angle, it had its uses.

Oh so that's it? Hm, well they ought to fix that. In any case, I'm mostly used to Legacy now, but it does still have its annoying quirks. And I keep rotating the camera to avoid eye-contact attacks >_>...
