The leveling process needs more more level appropriate content

I have been doing a variety of content to leveling my alt jobs to 70. However, once I actually get to 70, I have very little idea what any of my post lv50 skills even do.

Lets look at the main ways that people level:

Leveling Roulette - 95% of the time, you get a sub level 30 dungeon, where you just spam 1,2,1,2,1,2 the whole time.

PvP - Use a different set of simplified skills.

PoTD - everything dies in 2 GCDs except for bosses. Also no skills past level 60.

50/60 and Trial Roulette - 95% of the time get a 50 dungeon or trial (I'm really good at playing my jobs at level 50, but most jobs change dramatically going from 50 to 70)

Open world content (daily hunts or fates) - Opposite problem where often the target is a few levels above you, resulting in misses, which makes learning to play the class really hard (like when fire1 misses and you lose enochian)

Levequests - Actually get to play your class at the correct level! Except the experience sucks, and these stop at level 60.

Maybe it would be nice to have something like a "near level" roulette, where it would pick only form duties within 5 levels of you.

This bugs me too. I haven't levelled a single one of my jobs through roulettes or POTD because facerolling the same easy combos just fails to capture my imagination as a player. My friend lives and dies by roulettes and has probably spent 50% of his total playtime in Tam-Tara Deepcroft with three other veterans, all spamming 1 and 2 while watching Netflix. I always end up telling him how things work because he ends up with multiple endgame jobs and no clue how to use them effectively, but even then I'm mostly soloing and while I read the tooltips and practice, I don't get practical experience of some group skills until I party up and learn. Positionals, for example, cannot be learnt properly solo or in faceroll content.

Maybe just a big bonus to experience if you're on a level-appropriate dungeon to provide a viable alternative to the roulettes for people who actively want to play at level? Roulettes would still offer bonuses and a lazy option for those who enjoy the syncing, but those who want to push themselves a bit harder I don't think roulettes should be the pinnacle of party play.

Even then though, dungeons are depressingly easy. A bonus for playing at minimum ilevel (or some as-yet unimplemented harder difficulty)?

Man, you're lucky. When I level tank or healer, when above lvl50, I am getting the most pesky difficult dungeons I can. The Aery, The Vault and full spread on the above-60 dungeons as they pop up. I want the low level dungeons! If I'd want the high level dungeons, I'd queue for them!

And yes, if you want high level dungeons, then just queue for them. A dungeon that is about your level gives as much experience as leveling roulette does...past the first time you do it with the bonus, of course. Leveling roulette does speed up the queue though...or at least, it's supposed to. To be honest, I only ever did it with tanks/healers, so I don't know whether it's not more of a bottleneck than the individual dungeons at higher levels.
After all, leveling roulette functions by giving you experience at the end that is about equal to what you lose by being at a lower level dungeon instead of a dungeon your level. So just go to your level dungeon if you want to level and learn the class at once.

I can't really agree. Though my experience is very different to yours by the sounds of it.

I use roulettes to get to level 61, then spam dungeons until 70.
I did the same in HW (roulettes to 51 then spammed dungeons until 60).

Further on this, you don't learn much at all for a lot of jobs until you hit the higher-60's anyway, as you're still locked behind a few key skills that come in the later levels that are pretty paramount to your rotation..
I will simply use DRG as an example here - you don't get Mirage Dive until Doma Castle, and Nastrond comes at 70. So the whole basis of the level 70 mechanics for DRG don't even start until 68/70... DRG isn't alone in this as well - even SAM gets Hagakure at 68, which is the backbone of a lot of your level 70 skill usage.

Most of the learning process from my experience is getting to 70 through dungeons, then spending a good while hitting a dummy while I figure out the rotation. This is not because "level equivalent content is scarce" but because core skills for each job come in the later levels so most of the leveling process from 1-65ish doesn't really matter to begin with.

Well... yeah, of course your level 70 rotation doesn't fully develop (on most jobs) until level 70. But it's still useful to know what pieces you're working with and how everything fits together along the way. It's a lot easier to fit in something new if you already know how everything you had works, than to just jump to the end and figure everything out all at once.

The solution here seems absurdly simple. If you want to do at-level content, queue for it. Roulettes aren't for that; their bonus is just to help all the players queuing for specific instances. If you're queuing for an instance on par, you're still getting relevant experience.

Personally, I found leveling with roulettes to be less than ideal, mostly due to missing out on any relevant dungeon loot. I'd rather queue for the same dungeon over and over, still getting decent experience, and also the chance at gear upgrades.

They really really need to change the Levelling roulette pairing to look at appropriate levels. There's nothing more infuriating than getting a all over-60s party and getting stuck in Brayflox.

No, they don't. You need to start going to dungeons that are your level. Roulette is that, a roulette. If you want relevant level, then queue for the dungeon with that relevant level. You will get comparable experience and loot that you may actually use to boot. And you'll get the challenge you want.

The goal isn't getting the dungeon you want, rather the XP from the Leveling roulette. When you get stuck in Bryflox, tough luck. It's called Roulette after all.

Do leveling roulette only once each day. Do dungeons at your level 3-4 times each day.
