    G74sx Vs Final Fantasy 14 = disappointed / Can't overclock i7-2670

    HI,

    I've just received my new G74SX-91171V - 3D to play with Final fantasy 14 and I must face the reality, i'm disappointed ...

    What I've done :
    1) Overclock my 560m : core : 910 Mhz/ mem freq : 1640 Mhz= stable (improvment : 4 - 5 fps) without overheating it too much (thanks to the good fan system).
    2) install and run game booster 3 (1 fps ...)
    3) Start throttlestop : gain nothing ...

    What make me sick :
    1) Impossible to overclok this damn Sandy bridge i7-2670 CPU !
    2) Can't find advanced setting /hidden menu in this poor bios v202 (I won't update in v203
    3) I don't find PLL for setfsb ...

    Furthermore, in FF14 3D render are good but the cursor does not support the depth and trees blinking !!! Squaresoft fault ???

    To resume : with same game setting my XPS15z (525m and i7-2620) is more powerfull than this one once 3D vision is active ...

    Spec in game :
    1366*768 in full screen
    AA = 2X
    Anisotropic = none
    general quality of the game 8/10
    Oclusion = off
    other setting high to average.

    XPS15z : 28 - 34 FPS
    Asus G74sx : 19- 23 FPS

    I'have wasted a lot of time trying tips but nothing works except the GPU overclocking...

    Such a waste of time / money ...

    Overclocking a laptop.... o_O Call me old school but when something has limited cooling potential, you just don't do it. If you want MAX performance and OC'ing stuff while spending the least amount of money, shouldn't you have gone with a desktop? With limited heat dissipation and hard to replace components that are very expensive, overclocking laptops just isn't wise is it?

    I think i'm a bit confused here. You have some wonky overclocked laptop setup, you're trying to run the game with 3D turned on (which the game supports, but considering how buggy and unstable the rest of the client is, I doubt it supports very well), and you're upset that you cant overclock your processor, and thats somehow FF14's fault?

    Sure, the lack of cursor depth is on SE's end, but they're not going to take the time to further support an experimental graphical feature when they're already in the middle of completely rewriting the game engine for 2.0. The flickering trees could be a number of things, but it's most likely either on your video cards side (underdeveloped or experimental driver features, which 3D falls into for many, many cards) or its an issue with Antialiasing (I had all sorts of weird flickering issues in Aion with AA turned on, the only solution was to just turn it off).

    Maybe with some more information about the specific issues we can help, but 3D support is a pretty bleeding edge thing for games to feature, and good results are a coin toss more often than not.

    i didnt realize this was a laptop,lol. you shouldn't be overclocking it you should have it laid on a brick of ice while playing.

    Overclocking a laptop isn't a fanzy thing if the cooling system is good, in my case Asus done things right as the result this laptop probably has the best cooling system ever made.
    I've overclocked my core GPU from 775Mhz to 910Mhz and it still remain under 67°C MAX

    Besides, the fan remains silent

    In fact, my cooling system and GPU overclock isn't the actual problem ...
    The only think I didn't know is that we couldn't overclock a Sandy Bridge CPU other than 2500k and 2600K.
    And I wouldn't do such things if SE optimise it for multicore cpu and I'm surprise that some fans make some soft to do it ... I know that SE is busy right now but I don't understand why this is so badly optimized with new hardware like mine (i7-2670 is not a poor old cpu right ?).

    My question is what settings / hardware do you have to play it in 3D without lag ?

    ABout the 2.0 Engine I wonder if it will needs even more power than this one ?

    Well if that's the question, it's an easy answer.

    A GTX 560M is a pretty decent *mobile* video card, however it doesn't hold a candle to top of the line desktop cards. If you're looking for ~60FPS with everything set to high *AND* 3D, you'd need something like a GeForce GTX 560 Ti or a Crossfire/SLI setup. It's not an issue of overclocking, that 560M just cant do what you want it to.

    Disable AA in 3D greatly increase FPS now I can play it in 1366*768 without problem.
    Overclocking CPU is useless because it only use 2,70Ghz/3,10 Ghz...
    So I'll keep it
    Thx for your comments
