This needs to stop being their go to excuse. I get FFXIV utilizes old code from 1.0, but they need to bloody well find a solution. We have arguably the worst glamour system and inventory management among the genre. For a AAA subscription based game, it's more than a little ridiculous. If they can code event items into the armoire, I don't see why they can figure out how to code mog station stuff. Slap an achievement on the damn thing when we buy something if that makes it easier.

In the short term, i would love to be able to add the calamity salvager guy to my house, and park him right next to the armoire. Also, purchasing your items from him should be free.

I hate how inconsistent the armorie is. Some items from achievements can be stored, some not. And not being able to store the mog station and campaign outfits in there is the worst thing. People paid real money for them so they should not have to lose them if they have no space left.

At least make it so that achievement items, seasonal clothes and everything that is bought with real money is stored in there. If the server cant handle that I am a bit worried how bad their system truly is.

Letter from the Producer LIVE Part IX Q&A Summary (10/30/2013)
Q: Will there be any maintenance fees or other costs for housing, besides the cost of the land and house?
A: In older MMOs, such as Ultima Online, there was a house maintenance fee you had to pay weekly, but in FFXIV: ARR we decided against this system. Similarly, these older MMOs also had a system where your house would break down if you didn’t log in after a while in order to have you continue your subscription, but this is a thing of the past and we won't have any system like that.

This is one of the reasons that I don't spend as much money on the Mog Station as I might have otherwise. At this point the number of items I cannot store or easily replace is too great, and it makes me think twice before buying more.

I don't think that the Armoire is any less secure than any other sort of equipment storage in the game. If anything, its simplicity makes it MORE secure, as there are less potential bits to foul up. This makes sense, as the Armoire is meant to be a repository for items that are IRREPLACEABLE if lost - every item stored within is an item that would be lost forever if you threw it away (or, at least, at one time would have been - some of the Armoire items can now be found that the Calamity Salvager). So, yeah, I think that the Armoire is one of the more safe ways to keep equipment, not less.

Because its simplicity is its greatest asset, it makes sense that SE is careful about which items they add to it. The more items added, the more data there is to keep track of, and the greater chance of that data becoming fouled. That said, there are some items in the game that absolutely should be added to the Armoire, and it's perplexing that they have not. The Amazon promotion items are a good example - they are irreplaceable, they have no associated Achievement (which could be used to flag the Calamity Salvager), and they take up quite a bit of inventory space.
