Glamour, we already have a system for it, why not use it?

So when we try to change our hair cut we have a way to do it, we talk to the npc and jump into something similar to character creation menu.
Why not do the same with glamour items?

You buy a closet for your home/room/inroom, get it on a quest, what ever. Prob a quest, knowing Yp.

In your room you turn to it, open the doors and bang, a similar character creation menu.

There you can try every item you equipped, as long as it fits your class, it it does't the item will be grey in his box.

The boxes containing the items could be similar to the hairstyles, a small image showing the preview of the item.

You have to equip the item to add it on your personal database.

That's all, simple, clean option... wonder how much trouble compared with other options this would give.

Yoshida actually hinted at such a possibility when he mentioned a "wardrobe" of some sort. They seem to be apprehensive due to... wait for it, server constraints. One would hope if they can create storage for housing, implementing a glamour log and hiding the database through something like an Aesthetician equivalent would be feasible. With them getting rid of melding matter, I suspect glamour prisms will be further condensed or also removed, especially if they are going this route.

It's a wait and see at the moment. They haven't elaborated on the upcoming changes to the glamor system but we can hope it's better than what we currently have.

I kind of doubt that they want to get rid of glamour prisms as they're a pretty decent gil sink considering the fact that you're forced to buy the clear prisms from a vendor (save for the few you might get from dungeons). For a stack of 99 that's close to 20k gil and glamour prisms sell like hot cakes; if I actually sat at the mb all day restocking I could sell a stack of almost each kind every day while still letting others get sales and I'm on a low pop server. I'd be shocked if they took that away especially considering that they already condensed it (which makes way more sense and streamlines it imo anyway).

But it would be great if we could have a glamour log, wherein once an item has been glamoured then we no longer need to own the item on our person. This way we can convert/discard/vendor gear that we only want for glamour purposes. There's literally no other reason to hang onto all that level 1 gear and it just clutters inventory.....

I wouldnt mind if you still needed the prisms to change the piece but it let me get rid of all the stored gear out of my inventory and put it in a menu.

If they really want the gil sink to remain, there can be a charge to re-glamour a class.

They could. But it would be a slap in the face to crafters (and gatherers)... there's already little incentive to buy things from us. The few things we can make that people actually want tend to get so much competition that the prices are driven into the ground. Prisms provide a modest yet very reliable and constant income, even to those who are not yet max level. It also adds some value to beast tribes as they sell items used for prisms (which can also act as a gil sink if they don't want to gather the items themselves).

Final Fantasy XI has a significantly better glamour system.

It's basically a gear set. It's unrestricted, and it requires no items to activate.

They also have storage dedicated to armor, and you can even pay more for an additional storage unit/page.

But "this isn't Final Fantasy XI" so we can't have nice things.

Maybe if we have to visit the NPC everytime to change the glamour and switching gear don't remove the glamour.
In short, if the glamour is part of the character body (like the underwears) and not part of the gear

What you're referring to is just an interface; how we, the players, access the wardrobe. The biggest hang up is on the back end, what the devs call server load. How the game memorizes and later accesses what you have available in the wardrobe. I commented on it in a earlier post, to just tie what the wardrobe can access to the achievement system.
