This...is actually a pretty good idea. I've been touting that they need to open up WS's to add more choice in how one can execute a combo, and this idea here just might be one of the best ideas I've read.I would. Would be way better we having always 2-3 bonus options with different purposes. Here an example of how it would be nice for "Path of the Lol" WS:
from behind = causes heavy effect (current one)
from front = increased enmity
from outside melee range = becomes AoE with increased radius.
Also, would be nice different effects creating different combos, like if i use it from outside melee range i unlocking Whrilwind as combo, but if i use from front i unlock skull sunder as combo and if i use from behind i unlocking Godsbane as combo.
This would make the combo itself more important during fights, like having frontal combos more related to crowd control, side combos related to enfeebling effects, back combos for DDing and long range combos for AoE.
This would make up to the lack of actions the game has right now...like having combos triggered when you hit 2 or more mobs with an AoE WS, when you it 2 or more mobs with a line attack, when you have someone between you and the target, when you are between the mob and the ally with biggest enmity, etc.
Position combo should be just one of many conditions.
