    Dragoon Wyvern

Not sure if this has been posted before or not, But in FFXI Dragoon was able to get a pet wyvern. That Depending on your sub class would use different breath attacks, I think this made Dragoon more versatile in game and more enjoyable to play. why we lost our Wyvern I'm not sure but would love to see it returned, Anyone else feel the same way just curious what others think about this idea.

I love the official forums, they tell you to use the search for thread about what you wanted to talk but when you use it they judge for necro a thread.

In FINAL FANTASY XI, a dragoon's pet wyvern accounted for too much of that player's overall damage output, and the wyvern itself was very flimsy. That's where the "loldrg" joke came from. Even today, there's no demand for dragoons in that game for endgame content. Sure, it's better than it used to be, but it's still pretty meh.

In FINAL FANTASY XIV, there's a wind-up dragonet minion you can get from the moogle quests that looks the same, but is a minion rather than a pet. That's as close as you're going to get.

There's also the differences in lore. Dragoons in Vana'diel were also known as dragon knights, and they would fight alongside their wyverns after sharing a bond. Dragoons in Eorzea are, as has been mentioned, dragon slayers who'd sooner take their own lives than ever bond with a dragon.

While the dragoons of XIV started off as dragon slayers, that role has become largely obsolete now that the Dragonsong War is over and some like Estinien and Heustienne now act to preserve the peace between man and dragonkind.

The 60-70 DRG quests entertain the idea of dragons bonding with and fighting alongside knights as they did in the pre-Dragonsong War days, so I could see it happening, though not as a permanent pet and rather a temporary thing like Bahamut-egi.

It wasn't lost, it wasn't there in the first place. It's not like Dragoon is required to have a wyvern pet anyway.

Also, they'll have to reduce potencies of almost everything Dragoon has to accommodate the wyvern and will lower the amount of damage the job makes at lower levels which I wouldn't like. If they created the job with the wyvern in mind already, it would've been done fine.

If it were to happen, I just hope it works like MCH turrets (that actually follow you) instead of SMN/SCH pets.

Let's please not have a pet for Dragoons, the pet AI in this game is retarded.

Did DRG have a pet wyvern in any other FF game? Just because FFXI did it doesn't necessarily make it the law of the land.

Would have been cool if the animation for nastrod was a wyvren fly over with a breath attack, instead of a reskinned gks. But no as a pet. Pets in this game are garbage, and they would have to nerf drg further to account for the increased dmg. Plus we would have to try and weave the pet actions into an already off-gcd heavy rotation and worry about pet position as well as our own. Drg would be a mess.

This reminds me of the first debate I saw on this years ago, as to if DRG should have the Wyvern pet or not. Most of what was in it, I don't remember, but there was one thing that stuck out. Someone actually bothered to make this and it amused me, despite it's simplicity.

Anyway, I like the idea of DRGs having a pet, and I did like having the Wyvern in XI, but remembering how it worked in practice at endgame, I wouldn't support it. I kept hoping for a little FFXI Wyvern minion, myself.

The wind-up Dragonet is almost identical to the XI Wyvern and probably as close as you're going to get to having it in XIV.

With this character's death, the thread of prophecy remains intact.
