    Good bye FFXIV tanking..... maybe.....

I've been playing tank off and on since pretty much beta.
I've been called many a foul a name and have had to dish some back every now and then.

Lately, (mostly since the end of HW), it's been rush, rush, rush, faster, faster, faster.

I'm just sick of it, people have sucked all the fun out of what I used to enjoy the most In this game.

I dictate the speed of a run or change because of a many factors: dps aren't as powerful as others, healers not keeping up with damaging being done (yes, I use CDs etc) or even overly zealous players. Yes, I know its elitistism complaining about other classes, but trust me, I complain about the tanks I heal too doing or not doing what they should based on party make up.

So good luck to the tanking world. I quit the tanking job.

Unfortunately I'm feeling that level of frustration too, with the rushing nature of the game now, on top of the pressure of having to tank without grit on, despite me feeling very nervous about doing so. I have a lot of fun tanking in this game, but the people just make it unfun.

I just want to say one thing: you're not forced to pull a lot.

When I'm tank, the first thing I look it's the gear of my heal, to see if he can handle a big pull.
Second thing: my dps. If they are a Nin and a Drg, I don't make a big pull, it's useless. But if I've a Brd or a Blm, then I'll do a big pull.

I guess peoples that make pressure on tanks are peoples that don't play tank, and then don't know how it really works.
    Try to stand out!

P.S: for myself, I've to say that I found the "new" tank in Stormblood a kinda boring.

I just want to say, yeah in theory. When I pull smaller, healer whines, run off and grabs more mobs. This has happened to me countless times. Usually with the healer dieing complaining ether kicking me or leaving themselves.

on your 2nd thing, yes I just my pulls based on my 1st pull.If it's smooth I pull big the whole run if not, I slow down pulls and the healer whines, run off and grabs mobs. Usually with the healer dead complaining ether kicking me or leaving themselves.

And yes I've noticed that healers that have never touched tank whine, and tanks that have never touched healer over pull.

TBH it's the healer that controls the speed of the run - not in the sense of actual pulling, but if they go OOM, it won't matter how many cooldowns you use, you will die eventually.
It's the tank that controls pull size, positioning, and aggro management. Together they make up a single functioning unit, unlike dps (which are basically self contained).
If the someone other than the tank wants to run ahead and pull extra mobs, let them die. They deserve it.

There is no right or wrong to this conundrum. Tanks who are leveling and still do not know the dungeons layout are not required to do speed run type pulls.
If the tank is experienced and the overall groups damage output meets the requirement, then yes its better to chain pull larger packs of trash.
The best example I can give 1st hand would be. Can I do speed run type pulls yes. will I always do them. No if I do not have the appropriate cool-downs, I'm going to adjust the pulls.

On a random note I've noticed most of the Stormsblood dungeons packs of trash are lined up with our sprint, from the 1st pack of trash to the last. Praise be to good the devs for that

If there is a problem it's the drop in players with patience. I have choice words for those types but I'll leave them to your imagination.

Both of those classes have excellent aoe starting at level 45 and up. Every class does. This is not a good reason to not pull big.

Both these classes have aoe capabilities especially the drg. We no longer run out of tp like we did in hw and if we go into life of the dragon mobs will literally melt. Not to mention we are spamming two different aoe skills one after the other and the second ability is a proc from the first skill making us extremely good for mobs even without life of the dragon. Also ninja has damage over time ninjitsu and aoe ninjitsu and a spamable skill that they can keep up for a long time at the top of my head. They may or may not be as good as drg, but they still can aoe quite well.

Going fast and pulling big makes me feel more of a tank than not doing that.
What good are my defenses and skill if I am not to be challenged!?

Nothing makes you feel alive quite like when you are at critical HP.
