    It's still showing a failure if you need to give something a bunch of traits just to balance the two apart.

    The only other thing I can think of is just coding the job crystal to give different potency, but would Square do that?

    that's not why they do it? RDM gets Jolt upgrade just like SCH gets Broil upgrade, BRD gets Bite updates just like SMN gets Bio/Miasma updates. the balance is part of it but it's not the main reason.
