    Cost of Relocation

When purchasing a plot for relocation, 30% of the minimum value of your old plot will be applied towards the price of the new one.

(Cost of Relocation) = (Destination Plot Price) – (30% of Old Plot Price)

    * In the event reimbursement for the old plot exceeds the price of the destination plot, the cost of relocation will be waived. Please note, however, you will not receive gil for the amount that exceeds the cost of the destination plot.

The biggest help of relocation for personal housing is the fact that you don't have to risk ending up homeless. Without this system, you need to relinquish your current house, then travel to the new plot and purchase that. Under the worst circumstances, you could very well lose both plots. The discount is just a small bonus, housing is still meant to be a giant gil sink.

Ah, right, minimum cost. I'd forgotten that the plot costs typically started off high and slowly dropped, not the other way around. X)

But yes, I can't see the benefit of relinquishing the old plot first for the gil; main thing you're going to use that on is another house anyway. It's safer to just save up as much gil as you can and take the relocation cost as a perk rather than risk losing your old plot, miss out on the new one, and end up with a huge surplus of gil and no where to spend it.

Don't you think this is encouraging people to just lvl another FC/alt and buying a new plot?
If its going to cost almost the exact same amount of gil to relocate a large to a large, why not just try own 2 larges since you are paying 80-100 million gil anyway?

I know some people will genuinely like to move their house to a more favoured ward, but I can't help but feel the devs are adding to the problem rather then fixing it.

Aren't there already some wards on some servers that are almost or completely bought out by 1 or a small handful of players using alts? I don't think this relocation option is encouraging anything new (outside of being able to relocate at all), but it is true that it certainly isn't mitigating that issue either.

The point of the relocation option is to allow -everyone-, home owners and homeless alike, an equal chance at a new plot in Shirogane. It's business as usual for the homeless, and now home owners can also take a shot at getting a new plot without having to demolish their old plot ahead of time and lose objects they can't pick up in the process and then risk not having ANY plot. If anything, any homeless who don't care about Shirogane can hunt around the older wards on patch day. Home owners hunting for Shirogane plots won't know for sure if they'll get one, which means there's no knowing for sure specifically which plots in the older wards will open up, which means they'll be harder to camp and maybe a little more up for grabs for people with less than ideal connections/loading times.

With or without the relocation system, people can own multiple houses so long they meet the criteria. Once again, the relocation system (for personal house) is to reduce the risk of ending up homeless in the process of moving. And just because we can own multiple plots doesn't mean we would or should (depending on your moral perspective, no right or wrong answer really) do so. I can't speak for the others, but I'd rather give another player a chance to grab the other plot.

They're not adding anything to the problem. If you wanted to move before this system, buying the new house while still owning the old house was optimal. This new system simply introduces an alternative. It also saves any workshop and airship progress as well as saving private rooms.

Sooo... from what I have read it "appears" that one can go from Small plot to Large plot with the Relocation service but does anyone know 200% for sure that this is possible?

It is possible, based entirely on their notes and explanations on the lodestone announcement.
