    Idea: Furnishing Set Lists

All credit for this idea goes to Andir Brenthen.

What if we could change the furnishing layout of our house with the click of a button, much like the way we change gearsets? This would be very handy for a number of things, mainly seasonal decorations.

If we could have separate set lists for things like interior, exterior, and individual rooms, it would be even better.

Like this post if you think it's a good idea. Liked posts are the ones that get sent up the chain to the devs!

That could be fantastic, but I'm thinking about how it would actually work.

Is it based by floor? You'd have to be holding every furnishing on you or it would fail right?

Maybe it could draw the items directly from the FC chest? I have no idea how programming works so that may not be possible. Otherwise yes, you probably would need to have the items on you. Or maybe not. Currently the only thing you need to change gearsets is the weapon. If you don't have whatever is saved to the gearset anymore it still lets you change to that, and just leaves spots empty.

They could probably do a locally stored placement script that pauses when an item is missing (ex: food you no longer have access to) and allows you to resume when you stock back up from a retainer. Editable of course in case of items that disappear when picked up that maybe you no longer have access to.

Bit of an offshoot, but since the question of where the furnishings would stored came up - perhaps they could implement a Furniture Salvager NPC. Furniture is bound to your character once it's placed anyway, so there wouldn't be much to lose by just having this as an option.

The main issue that they would need to work with is the sharing work-around via the FC chest. Perhaps they could have two handling options for furniture - 1) Initial furniture purchase/use still works the same - can still store in Retainers, share in FC chest and sell for gil and 2) Manually turn item in to the Furniture Salvager - this lets you repurchase the item whenever you want, but it cannot be sold to NPCs or stored (to prevent sharing).

Just spit-balling here, so there may be more issues with that. I'm sure it's never going to happen, but I can dream! I currently have a retainer full of furniture due to being between rooms and waiting on an apartment to open up on Balmung (HAH!).

While the entire concept of housing is still the largest thing that needs to be reworked, I do agree that some QoL systems such as this would be nice to implement as well.

Another thing that would be great: Axis-locking during placement. Centering things is a pain. :-(

Hey all, Andir here. First of all, thank you Odd for posting this!

In regards to where the Furnishing Set Lists can be pulled, in the latest news on 4.1 it seems they are adding a Storeroom feature to housing. Although numbers would have to be adjusted to accommodate for the set feature, the main items such as item location, orientation, etc., could be mapped in a table and pulled from that inventory (almost exactly like gear sets with the Armory Chest, but with additional KV Pairs). To me, it almost seems like they could be preparing this feature already, as lists would fit right in line with that addition!
