I got dinged a bit with Ultimate pay on FFXI while purchasing Crysta, wasn't much, but was at least 40cents over the exchange rate. I think a lot of this region dependent and bank dependent, so who knows.

In the US it's pretty painless. Ignore C&B, click UltimatePay => Paypal => enter in the exact amount if you desire. Takes all of 2 minutes.

That said, PLEASE implement continuous, direct-billing to a credit card!! Even a continuous, automatic debit from Paypal would work.

I have to admit it took me awhile to figure out the CC/paypal option was WITHIN ultimate pay. I do not expect a service fee for using ultimate pay (i did not see a disclosure). I'd be surprised if I get hit with a fee - and i'd have to rethink paying for this game service...

Enri: the Paypal option appears to be available to people who pay via "UltimatePay" only. Click and Buy does not have Paypal as a payment method, despite being "one of the European market leaders for online payments." No, it does not take a degree to register and make purchases, but it is tedious. With online purchases, each additional step could potentially cost a company a percentage of their customers. SE needed to outsource their accounts and billing services and these two, with their international reach, fit the bill.

Snippets from the Click and Buy website:
ClickandBuy makes Internet payments easy! For 8 years, our innovative Internet billing system ClickandBuy has been one of the established market leaders in Germany. Just register and you can simply and securely pay 14,000merchants around the world. Among the merchants are Stiftung Warentest, RTL, n-tv, Tomorrow Focus AG, bild.t-online.de, Spiegel.net AG, Playboy, Financial Times Deutschland and UNICEF.
Only the Financial Times keeps the world in balance. (until it takes an arrow to the knee)

    As for cancellation:
Do I have to cancel ClickandBuy?

    Cancellation is not required

As a user, you are not required to cancel expressly, since you incur no charges or other obligations to ClickandBuy. All you need to do is simply stop using the system.

If you want to cancel your membership, just send us an email, indicating your customer number.
It's easy guys; just stop using the system!

As for UltimatePlay, provided by PlaySpan®:

On March 1, 2011, Visa Inc. (NYSE:V) acquired Playspan Inc. Media inquiries may be directed to globalmedia@visa.com; investor relations questions may be directed to ir@visa.com.
Wait, what? The credit card company that owns the company and offers itself as a payment method? Fabulous! That's probably one of the reasons why Paypal is acceptable on UltimatePay (would you want to be on Visa's bad side?) and not Click and Buy.

It's a commercial world, friends. We're just numbers.

these are some intersting things people are still saying, since most are now, not even true....

you can charge a specific amount of crysta now, so you can buy 999 and not 1000
I used paypal and Ultimate buy, and was only charged the $10 I spent buying 1k crysta

I was under impression you can have your account paid automatically through click and buy without having to purchase crysta with it :/

Direct credit card IS risky though. However, I would also prefer it over having to use Click&Buy. I've heard super shady stories about it. That, or a direct Paypal link, not going through UltimatePay. 8|

I am with OP on this. I have been trying to use Ultimate Pay to buy Crysta but each time I use Pay Pal I get a "Failed Transaction" AND the amount is deducted from my account at the same time.

And what about players who doesn't have access to Crysta? I have a Brazilian friend that ONLY have C&B as a payment option and after registering his card with them and tried to subscribe on FFXIV he got a message that C&B doesn't support FFXIV for his region?

O.o You buy Crysta regardless of the billing profile.
