Even if the advice was given nicely, people overreact to it badly.
"I know how to play my job." Is the most common response I get.

They didn't ask for an advice in the first place.
If they are doing it wrong, I'll tell them how to fix it.

The bad thing here is forcing people to do something. Don't repeat what you said more than once.

I usually ask people to do something followed by explaining why it is better.
If they don't do it, fine. At least I tried.

Not everyone is like that, lol. if someone is actually nice about giving job advice, I know I wouldn't get all insulted.

But alot do get insulted for little to no reason. People take genuinely good advice and assume its a personal attack.

Like a BLM I had once who only used Blizzard attacks. We gently told him (I mean really as gently as we could) that he should work some Fire into his routine since Boom is good.

"No one has ever complained before about how I use my attacks." (We were in Dusk Vigil)

...............we just left it at that....and he continued to Blizzard the whole way through the dungeon.....This is why people need to help each other before this happens, help these people out when they are class newbies...STOP MAKING ICE MAGES...

Originally, I thought I'd feel better when I noticed a mentor in the group. Like, oh! This person has a crown. I'll let them know that yes! I am indeed a new player and yes! I may need some mentoring for this instance.

However, some mentors will refuse to speak even when I directly ask, "Am I doing this right?" or "Do you have any advice on how I could do this better?" Like,

plz senpai notice me. take me into your bosom of great wisdom and knowledge.

Then again, that's DF. I don't expect mentors to hold my hand. I understand that they may not have all the answers and they're probably trying to get shit done. I also understand that there are a lot of asshole players that mistreat others. During my experiences as a new player, so far, there were very few mentors willing to reach out to me during and outside of an instance. Nevertheless, they were kind and I greatly appreciated the help.

So, to any of you that are still willing to take the leap of faith and help a sprout out - thank you! ♥

You are the type of player that makes most mentors very happy. One that appreciates any help mentors can give and actually wants to improve.

I am sorry some mentors ignored you. I don't believe mentors should ever ignore a player if they specifically ask for help. Maybe they didn't know the answer to help you true, but they should have simply said something like "Sorry, I don't have enough knowledge on that particular aspect to help you with it, but if you have any other questions keep firing them and I'll answer what I can.", but I guess some people just don't want to talk sometimes even if they have mentor status on.

Personally I've never had anyone ask me anything in duties when I have my crown on. The only place I see people actively ask for help is usually in the Novice Network.
