    Best Tank Food

Hello FFXIV community! I play a WAR main and I was wondering what more experienced tanks might recommend for food before a raid. I've been using boscialla (I think that's how you spell it) but I'm wondering if there's a better food out there.

Chirashi-zushi is a good food, and easier to find than Bosciaola (or however it's spelled) on the markets, at least on my server anyway. I know there are more powerful foods on the market but once you get into star recipes and master recipes things tend to get expensive lol. So it depends on what you're willing to spend.

Pork Kakuni is the best food you can get right now, it's what I personally use.

Uhm, Pork Stew is nearly as good (there is something only a .04% difference between them in a full Direct Hit build).

Persimmon Leaf Sushi and Chirashi-zushi are also good alternative foods at level 70.

Does that contradict something I said? Persimmon leaf is alright if you have a very crit heavy comp, but as a tank you're still mainly focusing on dh and det. Chirashi is fine too (I personally used it for progression), but doesn't really provide as much of a benefit as pork kakuni does as far as tank dps goes.

The main problem with Pork Kakuni is that although its good DH food. It's highly unlikely that you actually have enough DH to take advantage of the food. Remember you only gain 5% of your total DH. So you need a minimum of 1700 DH for it to really be worth the money.

I also use Pork mainly because its so easy to make as more than half of the mats comes straight from vendor so no need to do extra gathering.

I wouldn't say minimum, 1700 would actually be the maximum benefit. But for the amount of DH tanks can get right now (1100 or so?) you're only looking at getting between 50-60 actual DH. And probably not getting max Det either (from what I can put together not more than 1400 at i340).

Idk, I'm personally building for crit. So persimmon leaf seems better than pork kakuni

    Pork Kakuni - 55 DH / 28 Det
    Persimmon Leaf Sushi - 82 crit / 22 DH

I'd go for persimmon just because I can max the crit. But I doubt either one will make a incredible difference over the other.

Let's face it. Food is such a tiny, tiny fraction of overall output that it only matters if you're in savage raids.

That said, using something is better than nothing. As long is it's somewhat appropriate for your job and level, I don't think you can go too wrong.
