I've been in many FC's prior, and most of them are very successful, and active even during no patch or only hotfix cycle. The reason being, they do not demand that everybody and their pony sits on any voice program aka discord/teamspeak/skype/mumble/whatever else ppl are using.

They also don't force their members to participate in casual content, that nobody got time for, or want to participate in (beach parties/chatting in their houses). Nor are members asked these hundred questions upon login "how are you doing/how was work etc."

During actual content update, these FC's striving to make sure, that everybody has their static spot. That primals and raids are only cleared and trained with FC members. Farm parties are set up etc.

That does make a huge difference in my eyes, plenty of times I've switched FC's because I do not want to hear all day, how somebody did their dishes and what they are planning for dinner, when being forced to join VoIp.

And before people start with this anti social non sense, it has nothing to do with it, but back in the day you could be social with friends and enjoy games without having to listen to their actual voice and daily problems.

Sadly nowadays, everybody thinks that sharing their regular activities must be posted on social network platforms, and pushed down ppl's throats on discord. Nobody got time for that. Maybe if some FC's would change that, they wouldn't end up having no members or barely activity during non patch cycles.

Thou atm my avi is FC-less (as I put my only Alt incharge of it and left so the FC won't be lost) I can say I have seen this "lack of social" stuff ppl say exists in FF14 its mostly in anything u used DF to enter solo. Most amound of "chatting" I see is eather in friendly linkshells &/or PF groups... or the moments ppl start something that leads to it (ask's a question or some such). On topic thou, before I left my FC its been "dead" since 2.3ish & as I had no drive to try & rebuild it when leadership was passed to me it stayed that way till a few weeks ago, when I left my alt incharge.

What some see as "distracted" is really "fathoming the unfathomable" - last words from an Ul'dahn Mercurial Chemister at the battle of Carteneau

My fc is for helping people who are new. We are active all the time and help each other out. We are definitely geared more to casual players than hardcore raiders. Most of us are crafteres and gatherers and we help new people with gear and dungeons etc. The worst thing we've had to cope with is one member who was just constantly trying to start drama. This was solved by said player leaving the fc during one of her fits and we simply didn't let her rejoin. I'd say one bad apple in all the time we've had the fc isn't so bad. The more I read the forums the more happy I am that I'm on Leviathan. We seem to have a very social very upbeat server.

I also want to point out that there are numerous players - myself included - who are very eager to find a FC that they can call 'home' but a string of bad experiences have left us rather cautious about committing to a FC. I'm the sort of player who enjoys dabbling in everything that the game has to offer. Yet finding people who align with that mindset can be very difficult, especially if there's a balance desired between 'casual' and 'hardcore'.

As it stands, though, FC's suffer immensely due to not really being a requirement. There's a few perks, certainly, but the vast majority of content in the game can be done through the duty finder and party finder.
