    Amajina & Sons

So I've been reading a recent thread on Reddit about inter-racial couples in Hydaelyn, and someone brought up something that's been in the back of my head for awhile:

What exactly is the deal with Fyrgeiss's family?

Popokkuli, Seserukka and Nenekko - three Dunesfolk siblings, two twin brothers and one sister. The twins are referred to by dialogue and a journal entry in the Sunken Temple of Qarn (Hard) unlock quest as "the “sons” in Amajina & Sons Mineral Concern."

Now, I've no doubt they must be adopted if Fyrgeiss is meant to be their father, but the thing that gives me pause is this:

Emphasis mine. "The chairman's progeny"? This sounds more suggestive of actual offspring. Bizarre phrasing? Or are they not in fact part of Fyrgeiss's family at all, but the sons of the original "Amajina"? I know their mother, Shalala, also a Lalafell, appeared once in the 1.0 miner questline.

Fyrgeiss's Encyclopædia Eorzea entry doesn't mention the Lalafell youths at all, but instead tells us that he has three sons with names in the traditional Roegadyn tongue like himself. Have we ever met any of these sons? What's the deal here?

Anyone able to help me unravel this?

I will see your confusion and raise you ... more confusion. Sorry, I got nothin'.

As far as I can tell, Fyrgeiss is the father of three traditionally named Roegadyn, the twins are the son of a Lalafell named Checheryoya, and everyone's titles got buggered up between versions because who runs a guild, who runs the establishment where the guild is located, and who owns the establishment aren't always the same person.

Here's what I'd left in the lore book bug thread.

This may or may not be an error, but it spans quite a ways.

Popokkuli, Seserukka, and Nenekko were the children of Shalala and the guildmaster of the Miners' Guild in 1.0. When the Grand Companies were introduced, Fyrgeiss was named the chief foreman of Amajina & Sons via the Syndicate chart.

As of A Realm Reborn, they are referred to as the children of the chief foreman and the "Sons" of "Amajina & Sons". Fyrgeiss, however, is now known as the chairman.

The Encyclopædia Eorzea hearkens back to both of these sources, calling Fyrgeiss both chief foreman (in the Syndicate section) and chairman (in the Amajina & Sons) section.

However, once upon a time, I suspected that the father of these Lalafell might actually be Checheroya - a man never mentioned and seen but once in the quest Court in the Sands, assuring ALC guildmaster Faustigeant that "his boys" are looking into an accident at the mines.

Neither Checheroya nor Shalala are mentioned in A Realm Reborn. Meanwhile, Fyrgeiss' heading mentions only that he has three Hellsguard sons.

The Encyclopædia Eorzea also mentions that Amajina was 150 years ago, so how recently was "& Sons" added? And why for the twins?

I'm not sure what it is ... but something feels amiss.

Fyrgeiss is described as the 総裁 (Chairman is closest but I don't know how he was titled in-game in 1.0) in both sections of the JP lore book, if it helps. And the "& Sons" is entirely a conceit of the localisation, since the company is just the Amajina Mineral Concern in Japanese.

It's not a reliable source as it's secondhand information, but I don't have the script of the game in Japanese handy nor do I remember the original quest clearly so I'll go with it; according to a JP blog I read, it seems that the father of the trio is described as the company's president (社長) rather than the chairman. The presidency seems to follow dynastic rules in this case as Popokkuli is mentioned as being the next in line.

So I suspect that Anonymoose is correct and there have just been a number of minor (resisted a pun!) blunders in translating the very-similar corporate titles involved which made everything far more confusing than it should have been.
