Forgot some lore elements from ARR and Heavensward and what's the shape of the world?

    [Spoilers!!]

    Hello,

Just finished Stormblood, and I have some questions regarding some charcaters and events from ARR and heavensward, because I forgot them lol.. sorry =x

    - What happened to Estenien after he wake up from the hospital bed? I remember he just left or ran away, but did he had any purpose? or was just to destroy the eyes?... does he still have any purpose?

    - I think I've seen Shinryu's somewhere before already, but I don't remember where? or was it Omega? I forgot who Papalimo was trying to shield... and if that beast got away... I remember a dragon flying by.

    - That guy who joined Cid's crew on Omega raid (can't seem to remember his name), he disappeared at the end of Crystal tower right? and I remember seeing him in Heavensward somewhere... how is he still alive? where has he been?

Bonus question - What's the shape of the world? I noticed there is no difference in timezones from Eorzea to the far east. Is the earth flat?

Estinien just buggered off to travel more or less.

You would have first seen Shinryu and Omega during the closing events of 3.55, which concluded with the two incapacitating each other for a time. Papalymo used Tupsimati to do the sealing spell Lousioix did during the Battle of Carteneau to seal away Shinryu for a time.

Nero tol Scaeva disappeared at the end of the Crystal Tower arc, yes, presumably to pursue his agenda. He showed up in Heavensward at the Carteneau Flats during, uh, 3.4 or 5-ish, to hint at Omega.

The world is presumably spherical. There are technically timezones, but as the devs felt it'd be too difficult to implement such (I believe they stated such in an interview) so everything still runs off the Eorzean Time clock in game.

Thanks! Everythings feels more clear now >_<
Just wanted to grab that quote, since this still makes no sense to me.

So, as far as I remembered, he stayed inside the Darkness Abyss.. or wtv was the name of that place, and it's impossible to get out of there, yet he did, is there any explanation?
Also, where is the Carteneau Flats in game? might sound noob, but I don't recall going there.

So basically, since the end of the Crystal Tower, or Heavensward, he's been looking for Omega?

-After leaving the hospital, Estinien brought flowers to Azys Lla in memorial of Ysayle. He has since been traveling the world working as a mercenary in addition to helping the Alliance win the war for Ala Mhigo from afar. (He shows up again during the DRG 60 - 70 questline.)

-Shinryu and Omega both first appeared during the climax of 3.55. Shinryu was indeed the primal Papalymo bound.

-Nero disappeared from the narrative following the Crystal Tower and first reappeared during 3.4's closing scenes, seemingly having found Omega on the Cartenau Flats. (How he got there is a huge mystery.) Where he was and what he was doing in the interim is unknown; he describes himself as a "free agent."

-Hydaelyn is supposedly round like most planets; we see it from space during King Thordan's Ultimate End. As to why the Far East doesn't run on a different timezone... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

    ---

-Nero got out of the World of Darkness at the last second thanks to Cid literally lending him a hand.

-The Cartenau Flats are between Thanalan and Mor Dhona.

I don't recall all the details.

He was corrupted by fighting off voidsent to protect the two Allagan clones inside the Void. As the WoL, that one Miqo'te and Nero were attempting to escape, Nero was weakened by the corruption and bid the WoL and Miqo'te dude to escape without him. As he attempted to move towards the portal, he was purified, presumably by the two Allagan clones nullifying the Allagan contract with the Cloud of Darkness. Thus strengthened, he made it to the portal and escaped, though not without some timely assistance from Cid nan Garlond who pulled him through it just as it was about to close.

As his plans were dashed by the sealing of the Crystal Tower by Miqo'te dude, he buggered off to go find other technology that might help him gain renown. Presumably his efforts eventually led him to Omega.

The Carteneau Flats are located along the border of Thanalan and Mor Dhona. It is not a location one can travel to in ARR outside of PvP Frontline matches (Borderland Ruins (Secure)). I don't believe it was an accessible location in 1.0 either outside of when they were shutting down the servers.

    Thanks for the replies guys.
Now that you mention, I do remember him getting out of there alive.

Ok, now the plot makes more sense. Loved Stormblood, going raiding now ^^

To add a few minor points to the info above:

More or less he took some time off to reflect. Nidhogg killed his family when he was a child and he lived only to revenge himself upon the wyrm for his loss; he became Nidhogg's mirror image. At the conclusion of the Dragonsong War, Estinien saw what becomes of those who let that hatred drive away everything good in their lives and refuse to ever let go of it. When Nidhogg died, he let the Azure Dragoon die with him and tried to move on with his life (starting with leaving flowers for Ysayle in Azys Lla).

He returns in Stormblood because Nidhogg's eyes are back in play. With some small part of Nidhogg active in the world, he resurrects the Azure Dragoon within himself, as well. There's a sort of bitter loneliness in him as he talks to the Gae Bolg warped by Nidhogg and still attuned to the Wyrm's power. With the eyes gone, Estinien can put the Azure Dragoon to rest, in a way, as well. Though Yoshida said he thinks of Estinien as a self-identified Scion of the Seventh Dawn - not an official member, not someone who comes to meetings, but someone who stays in the loop on their activities and will make a move if he thinks he can be of help they're lacking.

Yeah. Same dragon. Ilberd summoned Shinryu (basically just by harnessing everyone's desire that the Empire suffer and channeling it into a summoning ritual of, "The Calamity but worse please.") and Omega bound it before retreating into its own pocket dimension. The Empire finds the bound Shinryu and Zenos brings it back to Ala Mhigo to await his merging with it. If you watch the cutscenes again, you can see him get the call that Shinryu has been found while he's in Doma and he just leaves Yotsuyu to fend for herself.

He was the second-in-command of the XIVth Legion, which went rogue when Gaius invaded Eorzea. That all but guarantees Garlemald would just kill him if he tried to return, so he became a wandering vagabond instead. He still wants nothing more than to unravel the greatest technological secrets of the world and surpass the reputations of Cid Garlond and even the Allagan Empire. He tried following raw power with his little meter there, which led him to Crystal Tower, but that went sideways when they all went into the void to fight the Cloud of Darkness. Nero, despite his flaws, showed a number of selfless traits that almost got him killed in the World of Darkness, and Cid helped pull him out at the last second.

You see that same "MORE POWER! AHAHAHAHA!" sentiment when Omega first fires up. Nero isn't necessarily a bad guy, but there are certain thresholds where he just can't stop himself from doing what he can before he thinks about whether he should.

My favorite comparison so far is that he's Eorzea's Tim "The Toolman" Taylor. He can't reconcile his desire for more power with basic common sense, whether he's hooking up a death claw turbine to a blender or rigging the Warrior of Light up to a magitek repulsor lift not intended for organic matter or firing up Omega itself.

(An Aside: He seems to have read all of the books Omega was basing these monsters on, and bragged about his active imagination. I'm going to laugh so hard if he Stay Pufts us in the last turns.)

Story - Gameplay segregation so that you don't need to do calculations about gathering nodes and fishing holes and junk. Eorzea itself should be more than one timezone, really.

Amusingly, this would be unusual in the history of Final Fantasy, being that most of the world maps in previous games would fit with a torus; you go off the north edge and reappear in the south, which doesn't work with a globe.

Hydaelyn actually is a sphere - there are multiple times it's clearly shown as such; the first few moments of the opening movie for new players that plays right at the start of the game after creating a character showed Hydaelyn from space and it was clearly round - that used a similar image from the end of this pre-release trailer.

Hydaelyn is also seen from the surface of the primary moon Menphina during the 'stinger' scene after the credits play at the end of the initial Heavensward main scenario - when Eldibus anoints 'Evil!Derplander' as the Warrior of Darkness, you can see Hydaelyn rising above the moon's horizon, presumably parodying this famous image of Earth from the Moon, and it's clearly a round planet.

Finally, the Astrolabe weapon for THM/BLM has as it's 'orb' a model of Hydaelyn with tiny models of Menphina and Dalamud orbiting it, and it's a blue sphere.

So those three reasons clearly prove Hydaelyn is a spherical planet like Earth (Yes I know Earth is not a true sphere, but to the naked eye at least it's round ).
