    Legs

    Ok. I woke up, made a coffee, EXEcuted FFXIV, loaded my character, which happened to be in Rhalgr's Reach around summoning bell, and immediately got back to sleep in front of the monitor. Wnen I woke up again I noticed pure hulk-guy carring a crate to a heap of another crates. "C'mon, put it down",- I thought, still half-beign in a realm of Morpheus. I knew poor dude couldn't do a thing, quantity of crates in the heep must stay unchanged, but then an old thought came to me... Another day I was tending my seeds while it was raining - kinda stupid to water them, right ? So my character weeded seeds, bending both of her legs. Here's the thought - why do we have so poor leg animations not on such rare occasions? I mean, if you try to come close to boulder there are only two options: either you stand on it or beside it. Why can't character to step one leg on it? I understand it's MMO and such, but in Guild wars 2 there's no such problem. I'm sure it's not a problem in plenty of MMO games.

    I understand the question but the phrasing is pretty amazing.

    What you're referring to is inverse kinematics. https://software.intel.com/en-us/art...rse-kinematics FF XIV has pretty rough collision and physics programming and I'm not sure they could program reverse kinematics better than what it already is even if they wanted to.

    And now I do not know. Amazing. I tried to mention that I might be wrong at punctuation and prasing, but 1000 symbols. you know. Was your amazing amazing with air quotes? Anyways, I DO want greedy SE to implement better leg animations instead of trying to get more of my money with useless Mog-station items.

    I would not hold my breath for detailed footing animations and honestly the spine is more in trouble than leg animations in this game.

    Amazing is as amazing does.

    It's not an issue of greed, they'd have to completely reprogram and test a major function of the game engine to make that kind of animation more sophisticated than what's already offered. NPCs can do it sometimes because they were mocapped to do that there. One example that comes to mind is the gold saucer bunnies using a unique walk and setting things down, that was a specific animation cycle mocapped just for that specific purpose. That walk cycle wasn't made to respond to player input and physics/collision present in the game like what a player avatar can do. For a player character to have one foot on the stairs whenever we walk up to them with all available models it'd take a much more sophisticated and procedurally generated set of tools which the game engine itself probably cannot handle.
