Simply put, if you have a job who can equip the gear, you can "glamour" it to ANYTHING regardless of class or level. If I had a level 1 WAR and 99 THF, but I have all the THF JSE sets, I can "glamour" those JSE sets onto my level 1 WAR, even if I'm butt naked. The only restriction was weapons for animation purposes, but in 14, that wouldn't make any difference
Not true. Style Lock is deactivated if you change Jobs in FFXI (meaning you lose whatever appearance you have glamoured), thus preventing you from adding AF to the wrong Job just like it is here in FFXIV (if it actually allowed it, then that is something that was only possible for a short time and was changed, as shown here:

This category has the same effect as the /lockstyle commands. Selecting “Static” will lock the character’s appearance.

When changing jobs.
Although I do agree FFXI's Style Lock is a better system than FFXIV's Glamour Prisms, it's not perfect, and has it's own set of issues. And as has been mentioned, it was only implemented into the game anyway because FFXIV had already implemented it, FFXI is merely playing catch-up. Either way, although the current system can be improved, it's better than no glamour at all. People should really be grateful for what we have instead of constantly demanding "MOAR!" First World Problems I guess...
