PS4/PC Setting Transfer

Can we please have a method by which to save our settings and recover them on different platforms, or at very least, different characters? As it stands, if I want to make a new character I need to spend roughly an hour setting all of my settings to match what I'm used so, just so that I can comfortably play this new character. Worse than that even is if I want to play on my PS4, or rather, the reverse of this issue.

You see, I played on PC up until around April, at which time I largely switched over to PS4, which took some time to do because of this very issue. Now that Destiny 2 has released I wish to continue playing on PC, whilst I play that on my PS4. This would work well, except for my needing to completely redo any macro, setting, hotbar, etc. that I have grown used to. Needless to say, the amount of work needed just so that I can play the game on my PC again is quite off-putting...

I know it's not much, but I'd at least like to say that if this kinda change were made you'd at very least make 1 additional expansion sale, since I'd need to rebuy it for my PC. Beyond that, I'm sure there are many more people in a similar position as I who'd do the same however.

It's been asked for a number of times, an issue that's stuck around ever since the game was released. I'm really hoping SE will eventually give us that ability.

We should be able to copy the HUD Layout and all the Character Configuration settings from one character to another, even for those just using one platform.

And we should be able to transfer hotbar layout, macros, and gear sets from one platform to another. (Ideally, they should just be stored on the servers with the rest of our character data, so they're always available from any platform, but I'd even settle for just a manual "upload settings" option from one platform then a "download settings" option on the other. I could do that much every time I make changes to them.)

I currently have the game only on PS4, but would add PC as well if this were possible, and I know (from previous similar threads) that there are quite a few more like me who would as well, so SE should be able to make some money off the additional platform licences.

I imagine if we get it, this is how it will be. The main reason why is because they often cite data transfer between server & client as being something they don't wish to tax too much, and doing it as a server thing may cause this very issue. If it's client side with manual saves/loads via server however, that seems far more doable, and it's something we have precedent for given FFXI having such a manual feature...

Making it server-side will be no good for some settings, as the graphical ones. I play on a couple different pc with significant differences between them and both installs needs different settings. Just have one on 1080p and the other on 720p is a lot of differences, as hotbar placement and UI size just to tell the very first things I had to tune.

I think it will be much more useful add the option of at which level you want share given settings. Right now we can decide which hotbar is shared between jobs of a character, it will be great we can decide if an hotbar can be shared even account-wide. Same can be done with the other settings, I guess.

Maybe, server side, we can just press a "backup settings" button to save all of them on server to use later for recovery on a new install. without the need to keep them current: we will use the button just when we install on a new pc so it will be not much a burden on server space. Make them being temporary and deleted after a given time will also save space of old backups we forgot we have done in the past.

Question, does PS4 version save its settings to external usb drive? or can we do that ?
The other limitations probably system, how PS4 reads data is different from PC, also type of filesystem on each.

Not in a way that's useful for this purpose. You can back up the PS4's save files, but they're not in the format that's used on PC.

Hey everyone

why is it so hard to add a feature that can export all character (and system?) settings in a text based file format (let's say xml) and another one to import the settings from these files?! There is already such a feature for the PC version (-> ffxivconfig.exe) - why don't you provide a similar feature for PS4 users? Use the same file format for both and make the PS4 version extractable via USB and we are happy

I played on PS3 until the PS4 version came out, and at that time SE created a feature that let us upload our character settings, gear sets, hotbars, macros, etc. (though not system settings or HUD Layout, which might conceivably be different between platforms) from a PS3 and then download them onto a PS4. I keep wishing they'd revive that system but make it omni-directional, so we could upload from any platform and download to any other platform.
(The original had the upload feature exclusive to PS3 and the download feature exclusive to PS4, so we could only go one direction with it.)

As per the Live letter for patch 4.4;
"And finally, players will be able to save their configuration data to the server."

So this might be what everyone is asking for.
