I figured this might be a good emote to use if one or more people abandon a duty, and you're stuck waiting around for DF to find more members, or just out in the open world chatting with some other peeps.
Whach'y'all think?

I second this. Also, obligatory request for persistent /read and /write emotes.
Hellluuuuuu maybe?

Not sarcasm. I'm being sincere. I thought about it last night when the tank in my PUG left the duty at the start and we waited around 8-10 minutes for another one to show up.
It occurred to me when we started messing around with emotes and I mentioned it would be cool if we could draw a campfire. I didn't think it would be something that would cause the server so much strain.
Still though, it was cool to pass the time by interacting with each other, and it was a smooth run after a tank joined.![]()

I like the idea, but a question asked during he recent Live Event touched on something similar, and their answer suggested it's not technically feasible.

A. I'm sorry, but we would need to rebuild the game from scratch in order to do that. There was a time we thought about having a "bonfire" minion, but the fire created a lot of stress, so the idea was shelved.

That's a shame! I like the idea of having an emote to use for those times when you're just waiting around. Suggestions such as a persistent /read & /write and /lean on wall or tree sound like they would not be hard to implement. I would like to add the idea of /converse where your character engages in small talk with a targeted person.

Reading too much of the forums makes me very sad and apathetic.

Agreed! I really wish there was more interaction between players, and when waiting for DF to find members. Everyone so quick to hop on Netflix, you know?
Another thing I thought about after seeing the /reading /writing suggestions was a toggle command called /talk. When switched on, anytime you type something and hit enter, it animates your character in one of several talking animations we see npcs do.
I just like thinking of ways to get players to interact more, and I hope SE continues to do the same.

Certainly! I was seeing /converse being sort of a silly ice-breaker thing which lead into actual talk. You know, something to help folks break through their social anxiety. Because I have run into an incredible amount of lonely people in FFXIV who just struggle to reach out to others. An emote would help them immensly.
