Ways to know you have a decent tank;
Is well geared, knows his CD's / rotations , ask if large pulls are ok, gauges DPS after pull and is able to judge further pulls, uses food if their lacking, ask for tips and is able to take tips with out getting butt hurt, is willing to learn mechanics as needed.
Ways to know you really shouldn't tank;
You can't handle the pressure and people keep wiping, don't know your rotations, your healer is being blamed for deaths that you know are your fault but play dumb, leave
a queue because they don't like what they got.
Ways to know People think they know how to tank;
Ignore communication, can't keep enmity, blames healers /dps, complains others don't know your role, can't follow mechanics, just plain irritates the group.
If this was me sorry, I am getting back into tanking and been trying to seemingly weave my cool downs appropriately. Hopefully I am doing it right.
WAR 4 evah!
Hey, I found this great guide for tanks. The title says it's for PLD, but many parts of it apply to all tanks.
I agree tanks should learn how to manage their cds.... I've done the schtick from every angle though.... I've healed for tanks who don't want to use any cds... make my work as a healer harder.... tanks who do use their CD but get hit by everything... and tanks who actually have a semblance of intelligence. On the other side... as a tank... I've had healers who get so overly focused on being a DPS that I don't get healed until 10% health... and when the healer goes... oh shit... i'm dead and the grp wipes... i've been going as a pld for a large portion of the time just so that i have that cushion that is clemency.... several times now... i've had to heal myself as a tank to the point i'm out of mp to use even flash... I'm actually scared to tank as a drk now. Then there's going in as a dps role... A RDM to be more precise.... I've been yelled at by the healer for not healing the tank when the tank dies.... All so that they could dps... Now.. As a healer.. i don't go nutso in the dps department. I'm one of them overly cautions types when it comes to healing... I'll dps as a healer.... don't expect much... holy hear holy there.. save mp save mp... ppl might go stupid.... yeah... those are my runs alot of the time. i'm glad for the change to healers.... but way to many got hit with the stupid stick... Then again... the same could be said about each of the roles
you don't pay my sub, I play how ever I want!!!

I had a war not use buffs kept dying because couldn't heal them fast enough and tank got mad and kicked me. I used highest healing spell ast has and couldn't keep up. After all headaches with bad tanks stopped being a healer.
Dark Mind (magic only): 60s cd.
Reprisal (lower target dmg 10% 5s): 60s cd.
Anticipation (parry rate +30%): 60s cd.
Rampart: 90s cd.
Shadow Wall: 180s cd.
Convalescence (heal +20%): 120s cd.
Effectively, DRK only has Rampart and Shadow Wall for physical dmg mitigation which both have long recast time. We only get The Blackest Night at 70.
So, if you're running sub-70 dungeons with a DRK, please understand the above.

Practically a free self-heal in itself.
Self heal is practically just another form of "mitigation" in the sense that a healer doesn't have to heal it.
DA > Passenger for the Blind (if required, but pretty much last resort).

Yea, we do use Abyssal, if the dungeon level is high enough, and if there is sufficient mob to self-heal off the dmg taken.
3 mobs and below doesn't really heal much, not to mention the MP consumption is high too.
