    Beast Tribe Linguistics

Does anyone have or can anyone provide a quick and easy guide to the various speaking patterns unique to each beast tribe we have so far? Whether or not the beast tribe tends to use contractions, be more or less formal, etc. A quick history on how their circumstances have affected their speech would be great as well. Thanks!

Also, speculation: will the Ananta or Namazu be our crafting beast tribe?

Amal'jaa don't have any real speech quirks to them as far as I've noticed.

Ixal have a backwards sentence structure, placing their verbs first, Yoda-style (IE, instead of "I will do this", they'd say "Do this, I will"). Refer to the races of man as "featherless".

Sahagin draw out their S's at times, as do the Ananta. Refer to the races of man as "softskins" and "striders", respectively.

Sylphs tend to speak in the third-person, referring to themselves as "This one".

Goblins have made up several goofy words of their own, like "braincase" = head, "jinglyshine" = gil/money, and probably have the most complex linguistics of all the beast tribes as a result. Refer to the races of man as "uplanders", presumably due to them generally being taller then them.

Gnath always refer to themselves as "we", perhaps out of habit from back while they still a part of the Onemind, but aren't too quirky aside from that.

Moogles have the whole "kupo" thing going on, as per usual.

Vanu like to use similes instead of simple adjectives much of the time, something such as "fierce like angry Sanuwa", being an example. Their manner of speech is also noticeably simplistic. Refer to the races of man as "netherlings".

Kojin don't have any noticeable speech quirks, but do have a more formal, polite manner of speech, as is often typical of the Japanese whom they're based on.

Namazu have a tendency to describe of subjects of their sentences further, oft adding "Very *adjective*, very *different adjective*" after them, or simply emphasize the point with a "No, no", or "Yes, yes".

I'm curious as to how they all speak in the JP version.

I've noticed we can get a quick preview of the speech quirks the Beast Tribes have when we accept their questlines. It always seemed to me like the Warrior of Light is taking the piss.

To add on to KageTokage's post, Kobolds tend to repeat words via synonyms ("Hello, greetings, salutations") , and refers to us as "overdweller".

Vath intersperse clicks between sentences. I think they also don't use contractions as much as usual? I'd need to double-check that, though. EDIT: Also forgot to mention that they refer to us as "fleshling".

Vanu Vanu use a lot of simile and metaphor. EDIT: They refer to us as "netherling".

I don't recall anything specific for Kojin. I know Soroban's JP dialogue uses "oira", which is kind of hick-ish, but that could just be him.

Lupin seem to speak the same way as the rest of us. The ones we have extended conversations with tend to be rather serious and straightforward, but that could just be them.

Anata seem a likely candidate for Crafting Beast Tribe Quests, given their lore centers around aesthetics and features magical goldsmithing.

Rather than the third person, the Sylphs tend to refer to people, including themselves, using substantive adjectives, e.g. this one, walking one, dancing one, mossy one.

One thing I noticed is that the Vanu always speak in the present tense in addition to third-person. As for the Vath, Deftarm and perhaps some other members of the tribe do use first-person "I", though I can't say much for consistency. Anyone know anything more about this?

It's a minor event when the Deftarm switches from "us" to "I", specifically when he gets his name. From then on, he uses "I" almost exclusively (sans plot incidents).

All the other Vath, as far as I can tell, still use "we" and "us". I might be missing something deep in the dialogue, though.

They also always use this "something one" structure for adjectives. Instead of I am tired, they would say: This one is tired one.

I forgot to mention them, because they're so sidelined that they're practically not considered a beast tribe at all (and aren't native to Eorzea) but what about the Mamool Ja? What are their speech patterns like?

I was going to say this as well, but I found evidence to the contrary.
